^Right then. The next poll will be Magazine against the winner of this poll.

I would have voted for Magazine, but I'm a bit fed up of playing the contrarian. So, the Stranglers... But I must confess having barely listened to Wire: Pink Flag a few years ago, some songs from time to time... I never really get caught. But I like Dome and Duet Emmo (Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis' post-Wire experimental projects)!

Voted for the Stranglers who for me, were a psychedelic pop band whose enduring song writing skills eventually outgrew their formative influences. I do like a lot of Wire's stuff but always get the nagging feeling with 'learned minimalism' you're listening to Penge commuters pretending they're buskers on the underground. Despite being an avowed inspiration for one of my favourite Bands (The Fall) I've always thought the Stooges sounded like (four) drunken pedestrians with road rage.

As different as chalk and cheese, it's like comparing apples with oranges... went with the Guildford Stranglers for no other reason than I've seen them play live more times.
Never got into the three stooges, I think they're a peculiarly American thing.

Huge Wire fan, still trying to get into Stranglers and kind of like the 3-4 albums I know. But Wire wins easily here.

Who do prefer: The progish-pop (and sometimes epic) post punk of the Stranglers, or the arty-experimental (and sometimes epic) post punk of Wire?
