I'mnot argeing against what people should do (listen/watch/like/appreciate) but when things get hyped, I have a problem. I'm gonna make a pol - Supper's Ready against any Genesis song; if Supper's Ready wins, there is a problem
well now you've really blown it - Genesis is my favourite band and Supper's Ready is one of their best songs :)
LOL I love Genesis as well, but if I were to think of an overrated song amongst progheads, it's this one, so if Supper's Ready does not win that poll, it means then that it's not overrated.

you don't get to tell people that they like something more than they should - it's beyond arrogant. we cant read minds, we cant tell who or if someone is jumping on a bandwagon. you just have to accept that a lot of people like something more than you do. I used to feel this way - I thought the Movie Titanic was 'overrated' Part of my growth was I had to learn to get over myself and accept that people value and rate things according to how they feel and it's ok if they like the things I don't, and don't like the things I do .. their tastes are appropriate for them .. as mine are for me. it's really that simple
The terms "overrated/underrated" are all about subjectivity. It's not about judging someone else's tastes. I never implied that. Like I said, something overrated is when appreciating something reaches exaggeration. It becomes a hype, talk of the town to the point of annoyance almost. Titanic is an overrated movie , OMG, back then it was like , if you hadn't seen it, you lived for nothing.
I think underseen should replace underrated (usually the case of a good film flying under the radar - poor exposure, etc) but even your definition of overrated is so intangible - it's impossible to put your finger on. lets face it - if something is really good to people - they will talk about it enthusiastically and often. It doesn't bother me ... I just turn it off and figure that I simply don't align with their tastes. I pretty much hate all pop music (this bogus RnB stuff) I hate Harlequin Romance Novels, I cant stand anything on TV .. but the people who rave about those things truly do like them despite my feelings .. It's rated appropriately for them .. I don't understand any of it but I can only say I'm right for me - not them sort of like how you're thinking about my opinion on this right now :)
I'mnot argeing against what people should do (listen/watch/like/appreciate) but when things get hyped, I have a problem. I disagree, for example I think Kiss are overrated (they don't deserve all the attention they get), do I like them? Yes, they have a ton of good songs.

Reading some of the comments here just gives me a headache; for some people, being overrated means bands/albums people love but they don't. To me overrated is appreciation exaggerated, something over-hyped, a band/album that may deserve to be appreciated but not that much. Basically it's more than they deserve. Plus, being famous does not mean being overrated either.
