Prog electronic from Denmark in the vein of Zombi and latter day Cluster:

Psychedelic hard rock somewhere halfways between Hendrix and Sabbath, with the atmospheric flourishes in the vein of Amon Düül II giving away the band's nationality. Not at all what people associate the Scorpions' name with, but lots of fun if you're into this kind of music.

Even more so than Judas Priest, the 1970s output of Scorpions is very different than their 1980s material. This is where you really can hear heavy metal's lineage as a wayward offspring of psychedelia twisted into something still fantastic and creative going on all these weird wanderings into the unknown, just this time exploring dark and hellish places powered by distorted guitar heroics that pick up where Hendrix left off. Certainly way heavier than the cover art suggests....

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Grim yet colourful, unsettling yet sexy. Just ebbs and pulses with neon-lit civilization decay.

Finishing: Umphreys McGee - Mantis Pretty good this one. Not too fond of the vocals though.
Next up: I've gone from a feeling of being completely underwhelmed to thinking this is their best album to date.

Great album Dave! I have Umphrey's Mcgee whole discography (well except for the last one realeased last year) and I can safely say they've never released a bad album, some are better than others of course but still they are all solid! They are superb musicians no doubt about it. Check out Anchor Drops if you'll have the chance.

I think you'd dig it Tony. It's got an Eastern tinge (and about a million instruments) to it that you just might find interesting (I remember you asking for suggestions a little while back ) + Shankar, Billy Cobham, Manu Katche, Youssou N'Dour and many many more featured.
