early XTC was really something.  Of course they went on to bigger and better things but their first 2 albums with Barry Andrews on keys were really high quality hyper new wave stuff.  Very dissonant and rhythmically complex.

^ Aw yeah. I love Go 2, and "Cross Wires" is the high point of its predecessor.

Just re-discovered this album the other day.  Hadn't listened to it for years.

Oh wow

I'd heard of XTC for years and finally decided to check them out with Skylarking which did absolutely nothing for me. This song is suggesting that I give them another chance.

I actually became a fan of Women shortly after they released their last album Public Strain, which is how I knew Viet Cong. They kind of broke up after their main guitarist (a really talented and pretty much the vision of the band) died and I didn't think I'd hear much from them again, but Viet Cong is a real phoenix from the ashes and their album is easily the best thing they've produced. I would say Women is worth the listen, although you may not like them as much or at all having heard Viet Cong.
Just got back from the store with the Viet Cong CD, as well as a vinyl copy of Public Strain, AND a vinyl copy of the new Ariel P (to accompany my CD).  Been listening a lot to Viet Cong and Women on Youtube, and I can easily confirm that I love both groups, probably equally.
Glad you like 'em. Big smile Both albums are probably two of my favorites of the decade. I still need to get the new Ariel Pink. I contemplated getting it Friday along with a premeditated purchase of Protomartyr's newest, but I didn't have enough money on me.

^ I think that's my favorite SY song on Washing Machine.  I always keep a special ear open for Lee songs.

Today, my favorite comes from the Viet Cong. Very neat song structure to this one, and in the middle it sounds like they're plucking piano strings:
