I've been on a modern garage rock kick the past couple of days
I have a faint memory of mentioning the band to you on some thread (I think you said something about prog garage rock; these guys aren't prog per se, but I felt them semi-relevant), so forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but have you listened to Naomi Punk? They could loosely be described as math-y post-punk-y garage rock. They released an album last year that had its flaws, but it certainly made me excited to see where they'd go in the future.

Curved Air - Piece Of Mind, great music! besides growing on me at every listening.
Looking forward to listening to Chico Buarque's 'Construção' - At the begining of Piece Of Mind the kind of 'orchestrated notes' render an atmosphere that remind me clearly that of Construção, interesting how the back orchestra begins so seemingly.

They're worth it. Not sure where to tell you to listen, but if you can find "Saw a Halo", try that one (it's the album containing the above song)

My favorite track this year so far.
I listened to that album. Top rate stuff. I'm buying that next chance I get.
Do it.
I'm totally doing it.
What do you know about Women, the band preceding Viet Cong? I've listened to their 2 albums a little and it's intriguing, if a little .... unfocused maybe? Not that I mind a bit of strangely unfocused stuff.
edit: sorry I messed up the quote boxes but I think you know what you said and what I said.

I revisited some late-Ozzy-early-Dio Sabbath today and this song really stood out.
This period of Sabbath is generally considered a mess, and it kinda is (most of the Never Say Die album was really tedious) but this song seemed to strike me as "weirdly cool" (to borrow a Firesign Theatre phrase). Lots of keyboards by Don Airey, and a proggy feel to it that not many ascribe to the Sabbath sound (though they had their share of proggy songs, albeit lesser known ones).

I actually became a fan of Women shortly after they released their last album Public Strain, which is how I knew Viet Cong. They kind of broke up after their main guitarist (a really talented and pretty much the vision of the band) died and I didn't think I'd hear much from them again, but Viet Cong is a real phoenix from the ashes and their album is easily the best thing they've produced. I would say Women is worth the listen, although you may not like them as much or at all having heard Viet Cong.

Just got back from the store with the Viet Cong CD, as well as a vinyl copy of Public Strain, AND a vinyl copy of the new Ariel P (to accompany my CD). Been listening a lot to Viet Cong and Women on Youtube, and I can easily confirm that I love both groups, probably equally.
