Hi!

I'm new to this forum and I am also a musician.
I'd like to know if there are any other musicians out there and qhat do you use to play that fine prog music?

I play the guitar so my setup is as it goes: Strat guitar -> Wah -> tuner -> Fuzz (Sunface silicon) -> Vibe (with expression pedal) -> Binson Echorec 2 -> Hiwatt SA212 (1976)

I'm pretty content with my setup atm, but I would like to put in another echorec at the beginning of the signal chain (before wah) and some modulation effects (ie phaser but vibe is doing a great job). I was thinking about getting a theremin but it is very hard to play one and what I do find interesting is moogerfooger ring modulator.

I'd like to hear what do you use.

I'm a keyboard/synthesizer player. I often process my synths through various effects, including guitar pedals.

At the moment, my setup is:

Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard digital wavetable polyphonic synthesizer.
Doepfer Dark Energy analog semi-modular synthesizer module.
Vermona Retroverb Lancet analog multimode filter with spring reverb.
Electro-Harmonix Stereo Polychorus analog flange and chorus pedal.
Strymon Timeline digital delay.
Doepfer Dark Time - analog CV and MIDI step sequencer.
MXR Carbon Copy - analog delay pedal.
Electro-Harmonix Small Clone analog chorus pedal.
Vermona RM-1 analog ring modulator.
Vermona PH-16 analog phaser.
Wolftone Chaos analog shaping distortion pedal.
Wolftone Helium analog octave distortion pedal.


In the future, there are two things I'm interested in adding to my setup:

The first is a Mellotron M4000D Mini. I'm a huge fan of early King Crimson and Tangerine Dream/Edgar Froese so it will be great to be able to play some of those sounds. I think the Mellotron 'vintage tape sample' sound will be a nice contrast to my analog and digital synth sounds. 




The second is the new Eowave modular synthesizer, it's so beautiful!



Unfortunately I don't have any money at the moment, it will take me about six months to save up enough money to buy them both.

I'm happy with the MXR Carbon Copy and the Strymon Timeline, they are both good delays. I can also use the Electro-Harmonix Stereo Polychorus for slapback echo.

I use to play a few open mics at small clubs and played an Ovation Collectors model acoustic/electric. Since you just got up and played one or two songs and got back down additional gear was not practical.
After that I played some local blues jams. I played the '73 Strat or the '05 Les Paul Studio through a Fender Blues Jr. amp using a Boss Blues Driver overdrive and a Boss TU-2 Chromatic tuner.

It is a great playing and great sounding guitar and I am the original owner.
It was a Christmas present from my girlfriend in 1973.
The guitar cost $299 and the hard shell case was an extra $99.

The situation these days is that most people have never used a disc or tape based delay unit, so they are blissfully unaware of the massive, spine-tingling sounds that you can coax from electromechanical devices such as these.
Many modern delay units sound fine in isolation - but if you have the chance to do a direct A-B comparison with a Binson, Copycat or other tape delay, the differences are all too obvious.
It's a bit like comparing a sample based grand piano simulation to a real grand piano - yes, I know that it's big, heavy, expensive and delicate, but I also know which one I'd rather play.

Exactly!

That's why our backs hurt. But it is much easier to play with big analog machine delays - they are much more versatile.
