I find Yes is kind of in between. Not as tough as Magma or GG or even some KC. And I don't find them as emotionally resonant as Floyd. For those who do, great. But I can only enjoy them in a kind of detached, distant way with a few exceptions like South Side.

If I try to look at both bands objectively (I am a huge fan of both) from a progressive point of view then Yes would win the contest. Arguably, Floyd had gone as far as they could by 'Dark Side' whereas Yes still had 'Tales' and 'Relayer' up their sleeves. That said, Floyd were 'progressive' long before Yes hit their stride with 'The Yes Album' so in some ways the timelines don't match up.

I enjoy listening to Pink Floyd much more than I do Yes.
I own several albums by Yes (6) and have tried more than once to develop a lasting relationship with those LPs. But it never went beyond the courting stage. To this day I can put on a Pink Floyd album and not even consider taking it off until side two has finished.

Pink Floyd. |

When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |

Sorry...RELAYER is more challenging that any PF album. But still voted for Pink Floyd because they are more solid. And have a great vocalist.

I actually think it's the other way around. Think of Ummagumma and tell me that's not more challenging than any other album Yes came out with.

Emphasis on 'bluesy'. Sure, they are in some sense, but they're more space rock and psychedelic than 'spacey' blues imo.

Yeah they could be a nice pair but you can't vote for both so I'll be Going for the One. (This could turn into The Endless River of puns)

Aye, if by challenging you mean difficult to find something coherant and well written.
Have to admit, the ~20 vote gap between them is quite surprising, it wasn't that long ago that Yes would have flattened Floyd, and anybody else other than Genesis. |

Ahhh.....no----just can't believe PF is winning so big---guess I thought it would be closer vote---but PF is easier to like---Yes has a lot of challenging songs.

Tough
The Yes Album > Atom Heart Mother Fragile < Meddle CTTE > Dark Side TFTO <<< WYWH Relayer = Animals The rest of their albums I'm not that keen on, to be honest. So Floyd shades it |

Yes, Yes, Yes... (from CTTE to GFTO it's fantastic ride, almost unbeatable). On the other side (of the moon :-) ) from Floyd I love Meddle and Wish You Were Here. I could listen The Wall (it's ok but far from perfect), I don't stand Animals (from whatever reason) and Dark Side is IMO the most overrated record in the history of space :-P

Although indifferent to PA favorites such as Wish You Were Here and Animals: Pink Floyd for everything from Piper up to Meddle. Yes has a couple of albums I love as well but has never been a favorite band of mine
