Usually when you went into a 2nd-hand record store (during 80's-90's) if you were looking for Magma, chances are you'd come across a copy of MDK. Still, to this day, it's my least fave album of theirs (on par with Merci... ). Live versions come across stronger, but I love their other albums more.....
The debut is quite different, not full-blown Zeuhl, yet unique and highly creative. 1001 Degrees is also superb, where the true Zeuhl sound started coming on strong. |

I listened to the first song off of MDK and it was enough to make me want to buy the album, but some here are are saying the live version is better. Should I get the live version or stick with studio version?

What hooked me originally was "Magma Live" (aka Hhai). I got the Tomato CD that's missing some of the double album, but it's still an amazing collection of music. I still think after all these years that Magma is that rare band whose live albums exceed their studio albums in quality. Their sound just feels too big for a studio sometimes.

The place to start with Magma is clearly the track "Stoah" from Kobaïa. What better introduction to a band than shrieking your ear drums out?
Recently with Magma, I can't get Köhntarkösz Part 2's first minute out of my head. But loving the snot out of it.

Rïah Sahïltaahk is so good,

I think you are at the wrong forum

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Yeah, even if they aren't your cup of tea there should still be some understanding Magma's value. There are many bands people have tried to get me into that I don't enjoy but I don't think I ever dismissed any of them with a, "they suck."

He doesn't even say why he thinks "they suck" he just says "they suck". What kind of argument is that?

Magma should get a band member who has a Kobaian name.
Just for fun. |

So you don't like them? Who cares? Why start a thread just to hate on them? Why don't you use your time to do something you enjoy?

Guys, the OP may well have been a troll looking to start a storm of feces, but he hasn't logged in since August 2009, which is well over 5 years ago. You'll have to be patient if you're looking for a rebuttle.

Huh! You're right. Who knew this post was from 2008? Weird how these things pop up after so long. Anyway, I still think people can benefit from my comment, even if the original author is likely never to see it. |

I think most members have done this at some point - especially if the post in question is bait. In the urge to tell off the author of said blasphemy, it's very easy to overlook the date of it's birth.
