Is an essay really required, though? The wiki page itself prominently cites Miles Davis's role in the birth of fusion. It would be more interesting to hear from those who deny his role in inventing said genre, as to how they would rebut the statements on the wiki page.

I can empathise. Mine lacks control, I don't think even the Lord Almighty knows where my slice is going to land. Hence I watch all these amazing free online lessons to learn to hit it better.

It's the great album! Than you for posting, Evolver (my fav track is Con Brio). Btw, If someone would to reject Miles Davis, then de facto also half of Frank Zappa's catalogue have to go out of prog, the complete 70s / 80s Oregon and Ralph Towner catalogues who were, according to the pastoral atmosphere of their music, far more close (imo) than all of the 70s U.S. prog rock bands to that pleasant English pastoral atmoshere of e.g. early Genesis; then de facto also would be rejected two of the five or six best 70s Yugoslav prog bands and an important part of GonG heritage. Actually this discussion now is - "does jazz rock belong in Prog" - simply because the fact that Miles Davis was one of the great pioneers of jazz rock. Without a doubt the jazz rock lives its own life but it also belongs to prog as a sub-genre as same as the classical and (or) heavy music oriented prog acts e.g. The Enid and Uriah Heep. I don't even know why people might think jazz rock is somehow on the outer limit/borderline of prog rock. Maybe from a narrow symph prog point of view, but how can people not see the links between Canterbury and jazz rock? Are we now going to say that Canterbury was not one of the quintessential prog movements of the 70s? Because a fair few Canterbury bands actually went into all out fusion in the mid-late 70s, Gong being a particularly good example. Likewise, some of 90s prog metal, esp DT when they had Derek Sherinian, had connections to contemporaneous fusion. A lot of fusion from that epoch sounds noticeably heavier and harder than 70s fusion. There may be some jazz rock acts that don't fit too well in the context of prog as this website understands it, but the sub genre as such definitely has a place in PA.

MILES DAVIS was a pioneer in what we perceive as prog even if it was called avant garde at the time.

Not prog, definitely jazz. I think that "Jazz/fusion" should be under a separate one of those "proto-prog" headings (in yellow) - doesn't fit in with the other genres at all. Miles was inspirational to a lot of bands for sure, but you might as well as have classical music or blues if he was only really influential to progressive music.
