my favorite jazz-rock band of all time!!  Good thing I retired when I did.. this band was next on my list to brute force past the conversatives on the site that still think this is a PROG site.  Since when has J-R ever been prog.. is is progressive rock and so was this group.

Jazz fans are even more elitist than prog fan.. and jazz fans completely embraced this group.. jazz sites discuss this group understanding that underneath the 'blues' veneer... this group was Coltrane inspired rock.  As much or more so than any group.

I like several of XTC's songs from the the later albums...particularly Chalkhills and Children.

Hmmm...I smell hints of prog in that Katy Perry song "Legendary Lovers", and she has a dress in the R&R Hall of Fame and her band jams out to Cygnus X-1 at shows. She's a prog rocker damnit...get her!!!

How about this?

Yuzo Koshiro- 4operators
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdOFYW0pbp8

Yuzo Koshiro is a famous video game music composer, but he's mainly known for music in the vein of EDM.

Although this song wasn't composed for a game, it was still made with an FM sound chip.

What about this one?  (Running for cover!)

No need to run from me at least - 'It's a long way there' is a great song, a reminder of good mainstream music from the '70's and a reminder of how good these guys could be too, in particular stretching out there ona long song that must have been a buzz for them to play live. Makes me want to listen to some Doobie Brothers, some Steely Dan, some decidely non-"prog" bands there...

Can we please hold back on the YouTube vids?
There are quite a few members with poor internet connections and all these vids simply f*ck it up for them, unless they have the patience to wait a year for the page to load.

Please consider the amount of vids you post and check if the thread is already booming with them. If it is, then use links instead.
ThanksSmile

Sorry yes ofcourse, I'll stop posting right now.Hug

Boo! No need for that Kati!  You can keep sharing links I'm sure.

Here's one more of my favourite proggy songs from a non-prog artist in a very nice extended live pussformace, with a pianist who is not Patrick Moraz despite a resemblance:
