The Grateful Dead would be in PA as a prog related act.

Rightly so too - but you've provided some tasty sounds there though!

Knowing how the "Progressive Rock" term is widely used these days here in Australia for the range of heavy/djent-inspired bands with generally throaty singers (Karnivool, Voyager, Caligulas Horse, Breaking Orbit etc), what I hear so far fits that genre pretty well. But I also hear more keyboards here than those bands, which is a nice change.

If you are looking for one of the categories used by PA, perhaps "Heavy Prog"?

yeah it's a weird one to categorize - especially with orchestral piano stuff....I appreciate the feedback. I've been posting this stuff but not sure whether to say it is alternative or prog rock. Everything is rather vague these days ;) haha

Guys and gals:

Can we please hold back on the YouTube vids?
There are quite a few members with poor internet connections and all these vids simply f*ck it up for them, unless they have the patience to wait a year for the page to load.

Please consider the amount of vids you post and check if the thread is already booming with them. If it is, then use links instead.
ThanksSmile

I really think this is one of the greatest Prog songs ever hands down by any artist prog or not.
I say that because it's the whole package conceptually, lyrically, arrangement, musically all working in unison as a great song should.

Can't beat those analog synths and keys either.

So much to ponder here.  It's an amazing capture with 6 camera angles, decent mix for what must have been an absolute nightmare production wise with all that chaos.  That in itself is almost a miracle.  This was a huge band, but this was also a risky venture for them with two new members going out in front of 200K + people, the biggest audience the band had ever performed in front of.  What Paice is doing on the one kick drum is impressive.  I just can't imagine the adrenalin going through their veins and pulling off a complex piece like this as tight as they did.
