Progspin - Prog News without taste, flavor, access, knowledge or any semblance of discretion.

BREAKING NEWS!! - The tournament committee has left their offices and is now holding court in the bar!

Progspin was able to follow Micky tournament chairman to the bar and obtained the following interview:

PS: So what can you tell us prior to the selection show?
Micky: Buy me Vodka Tonic or two and I guess I can tell a bit about what we did.
...

.....

....

Micky: Cheers Mate!  Now what do you want to know?

PS: Let's start with the selection process?

Micky: Well I am a big fan of your site so I can confirm that your previous reports are true.  We only seeded the top 8 groups and the rest of the groups were put into groups of 4 and informally seeded 3-16.  What we did then was break out a dice tower and my old set of D&D dice and just started throwing dice. A d20 to be precise.  Then rolled random selection within the groups of 4.  We moved from region to region as went until all 64 groups were placed in the bracket.

PS:  Were there any alterations
Micky: Nope.  This is meant to be fun, the fun in part is the shear randomness of it. One of the top 4 seeds I can tell you has a potentially BRUTAL 1st round matchup.

PS: Everyone wants to know. What about f**king Camel
Micky: yes they barely made the cut and were in the final 64. We wanted to show the love for 3rd or 4th division bands as well as the good ones and influential ones
PS: LOL not exactly what I meant...
Micky: oh that.  Sorry... I can not divulge where they are and who they are set to face.  Anyhow, thanks for the drinks. I need to get something to eat before the Selection show kicks off!
PS: Thanks for your time Micky. Good luck!  I suppose there will be some unhappy with omissions.
Micky: there always are, killjoys, f**k 'em. Let them make their own lists and their own tournments.

Beer

So the f**king Camel made the cut in the end.  Glad that you didn't let personal grievances get in the way of a fair competition (even if they'll be out in the first round haha) .

Looking forward to the cull...

Help me I'm falling!

Its a good job they didn't interview Micky later in the evening - he has a reputation for getting quite lairy after a few vodka and tonics! Smile

Welcome everyone to the PA's Battle of the Bands selection show.  Sponsored by Rogaine! A few words before we start.  Unfortunately due to a hectic week of work last week I was obviously unable to get this out last Sunday so with the approaching holiday we will be starting the individual polls this weekend and will run for a week.  Winners move on, losers go home.  I'm not tech savy enough to do actual brackets but the first two regions posted will be in the same half of the draw, the last two in their half. Any questions of course, just ask.  It is meant to be fun... so have fun damnit!!

and so after a short commerical break from our sponser.. we shall start unveiling the brackets!!

honest to god. I didn't fiddle with it one bit, completely random as they were picked.  I was really tempted to shift Camel into ELP's half, but half the fun is picking on whovever knocks out ELP for the next.. however many years till we do this again. LOL  I don't see either winning their halves of that section, however I will be mobilizing the ELP army regardless Wink

Some really great matchups.  Should be a hoot!!!

Magma and Hawkwind faced off once before at NEARfest 2007. Hawkwind suffered a crushing defeat and unless they can do something to change their game I expect a repeat this time around.
