Your OP is just perfect. Moreover, I'm gonna to rank your thread with a sparkling five stars 'cause I love the dark prog soundscapes so much

Another artist added to the list . I actually had to take a notebook and make a list, so that nothing slips away.

I heard the first three cuts out of Pleroma and it's very nice so far. I like the vocalist, she reminds me of Frequency Drift (although the music is not that similar).

I'd like to recommend Arktis/Air from Wien: http://arktisair.bandcamp.com/album/en-trance
"Take John Zorn's Painkiller and mix it with the post metal efforts of Isis and the occasional 70's prog experiments in the vein of King Crimson. Garnish the whole sonic spectacle with insane blast beats à la Napalm Death, the complexity and technical finesse of Jazz and add a pinch of Melvins. How do these ingredients blend? Allow Arktis/Air to demonstrate." (Michael Ternai, MICA)

^I second that. That album is TRULY dark. And difficult to listen to but very rewarding.

The OP was fine, it was Kati who ran it down a rabbit hole.

What a load of bullsh*t. Anyway. Surprised to see Virus mentioned in this thread, not a band I would describe as dark though their three albums are excellent, with Carheart being my personal favourite. Their preceding band Ved Buens Ende on the other was exactly that with their album Written in Waters. |

The Arktis/Air album blew my mind! It sounds exactly like what I'm searching for. On some tracks it reminded me slightly of The Mars Volta. Very cool.

Ha! Reminds me of another good one and I quote: "Fingers walk the darkness down Mind is on the midnight Gather up the gold you've found You fool it's only moonlight" This last one is from Lungs, now also the soundtrack song for True Detective.

Marillion had some pretty dark lyrics at the end of the Fish era. The man who inroduced me to them when I was 15 had doubts about lending me Clutching, because of that.

Marillion without Fish is a bit odd, just like DT without Portnoy and SB without Neal Morse, however the latter continued to be quite impressive too Anyway, I still enjoy all 3 bands here given the circumstances.

Marillion peaked with Clutching, IMO. They have some good songs after that, but I'm not keen on their overall sound with H.
