^ Yes SW~Covers is excellent on vinyl, his acoustic stuff is very good. The quality of his vinyl is always pristine and done with such care it shows and I hear the difference.

I suspect the BR version is super nice!

There is an issue with Houses of the Holy, the last track on side 2, The Ocean, has a lot of distortion mainly in the left channel. Seems a pressing issue with the ones marked "P-USA" in the deadwax, apparently the UK versions are fine. This is confirmed on the Steve Hoffman site, I do hear it on my copy....sadly. If Pallas acknowledges the issue and offers replacements I will look into it.

I thought The Raven was his last album, I never heard that one Confused

That's a bummer and on a really good track. Why didn't that happen on D'yer Ma'ker?LOL

Well its one track, not a huge deal since everything else is amazing sounding. My analog system is pretty revealing so depending on your setup it might not be as bad.
No Quarter is brilliant!

LZ IV is freaking insane......The Battle of Evermore, When the Levee Breaks ClapClap. I also got the deluxe version of IV with the companion LP, some excellent alternate versions, acoustic stuff.....The Sunset Studio version mix of Stairway to Heaven is sweet.

The Raven is the last full studio, Covers is a compilation album of singles he released before......

The Raven is sheer brilliance!! And on vinyl its jaw-dropping good...the piano, the percussion.....and the bass line on Luminol is bone jarring and deep....Really awesome.

Oh ok, I'll have to check that one out.

I really like that album too, it's my favourite from last year, but I was having a hard time to decide the format: I was going to buy on CD but really got onto vinyl in the meantime, so the buy got postponed.

Rush's Sectors on CD were also on my wishlist but I figured I should get them on vinyl instead. Are their classic albums available on vinyl, new? I'm sure I can't find used copies here.

IV is probably the first one I'll get.  I have a really old CD that sounds kind of muddy, and my vinyl copy doesn't sound much better (plus it's old).
I am looking forward to hearing No Quarter in this format though.  What a track that is.

These LZ reissues are heavenly....being that all my original vinyl issues are played out, worn down to the bone no doubt LOL.

I cannot wait for Physical Graffiti......ohhhhh boy! Kashmir Clap

No Rush classic albums on vinyl have been redone.....You have to search for used copies. I have been looking for a VG+ copy of Moving Pictures, so hard to find. Discogs have a few at a decent price but I like to inspect used vinyl....All my used record stores know I am looking for a copy.

At some point I expect Rush will begin the process too, hopefully they take their time and do them all justice.

That's a shame, I think they could easily sell those. The first album was re-released in vinyl though, right? I remember seeing something on their Facebook page.

Speaking of used record stores, I remembered that a few years ago I saw a copy of Grace Under Pressure in one of those near me. There's also a store near that one that only sells vinyl and they had lots of rarities there. I got to go there someday, now with much more knowledge in music and vinyl Smile

Yes...you are right, I even bought it...silly me Tongue

They released Rush-40yr anniversary box set....its actually very, very good!! They used the DMM mastering process which is Direct Metal Mastering, creates a metal stamper direct from the analog tapes. Much more accurate than creating a lacquer stamper......The packaging is based on the original labeling.

Most of the Rush original vinyl is actually very good, almost all of it is mastered by Bob Ludwig who is the guru. If they take the original analog tapes and remix to 24bit and then create the vinyl from that it would be very nice I think, although that is a lot of work.

I have GUP on vinyl, its a bit light on the bass end but still very good...All the 70s vinyl is super nice.

Another great release by Haken....I've never heard the original songs, but these are re-recorded since there are new members and a new bass player. High quality playing by all of Haken, and even a guest appearance by Mike Portnoy on the 19min song "Crystallized", playing the gong and yes NO SINGING!! LOL

As far as vinyl, mastering quality....Excellent, even better than The Mountain which I thought was very good. This comes with a CD copy also, Haken knows how to take care of their fans. The packaging is very high quality and with lots of information on the inner sleeve, considering this is only a 3 song EP.

I wish they would tour the US Cry

Pink Floyd as I always loved: instrumental. I generally never cared much about their lyrics nor liked Roger's voice and at least on this one no one will criticize their lyrics. This album is the spaciest since probably the middle section of Dogs, it sounds like the three old buddies jamming like the old days. I also liked how it is more oriented to keyboards, it reminded me of Vangelis in more than one occasion and Nick hasn't played like this in ages. This album is so much better than I expected Smile

Vinyl-wise: the sound is crystal clear, every track was placed carefully and it is easily noticed here, although I noticed some sibilance on the last track. As Gilmour said, this one if made for vinyl, and I believe him Wink

^ Well said, sir. This is the beloved Pink Floyd sound - the way they were at the peak of their career. Waters' poetry was powerful and relevant to the life experience of many people, but from the Animals onwards it began to dominate the music too much .. at the expense of the overall listening experience.

So far I have left TER a four-star preliminary rating, but I'll play it a few more times, and if it continues to impress me the way it has so far, I'll be definitely writing a five-star review. I'd encourage you to do the same, as long as you are comfortable with doing so.

I didn't notice any sibilance, but this of course may depend on the needle and the alignment. I hope you didn't get a defective copy?

Wilson describes himself as a 5.1 surround sound man, but he definitely has the Midas's touch when it comes to vinyl. I was very impressed with the way he'd redone some of the KC classics ("from original master tapes, approved by Fripp").

I wish the 54 minutes of Raven weren't spread over 2 records. Wilson could have added an EP worth of extra material (as he'd done with FOABP + Nil Recurring), or reduced it to <50 minutes to get either a normal 1 LP, or proper 2 LP configuration.

I easily prefer this one to The Wall. I care that much for Waters lyrics that I didn't even know what The Wall was about until I saw the movie LOL
I'm there for the space Cool

I don't know, I think I'm too much of a fan to write an objective review Embarrassed
Great image Tongue

I'm glad they found the old recordings of Rick playing the pipe organ, that track is amazing.
Another thing I noticed, was the synth motif on the first track reminded me of the one on the beginning of 'The Sky Moves Sideways'.

It's strange, I never heard any sibilance on my other vinyls Ermm

^^ I have to agree with you, the last side only has the title track Confused

I don't know where they could cut though, there's not a single unnecessary note in there.

My blu-ray copy is on its way here Big smile

Nice review!! My copy is still not here, soon. Postal office closed today for very good reason, Veteran's Day today.

But from what I have read and watched the Gilmour/Mason video clips I know I will enjoy it. I am not a gigantic fan of The Wall, I think it is too long, and the movie helped but was weird, kinda like the Tommy movie...weird.

Waters is talented for sure and after The Wall showed it but again, a bit too far out and I think would have been much better had the rest of Floyd been more involved....An iconic album for sure.

I am a much bigger fan of Gilmour's vocals than Waters.....There have been no reports of issues with TER vinyl.

The Raven as written has to be 2-LP version because there are too many long songs
Luminol = 12+ min
Holy Drinker = 10+ min
Watchmaker = 11+ min
Pin Drop at 5min is the shortest song, although after the title track he did have room for another 10min on Side 4.
I don't have a problem with stretching to 2-LP versions, it only helps give the mastering engineer some room to work with regarding dynamics of sound. He can EQ the album with as much low end as it pleases, since there is no restriction on groove length, The Raven has a lot of dynamic sounds, big so the wider grooves probably were needed.....It sounds amazing.

^ Thanks! I hope you find this album as good as I did Smile

I thought it was really weird after the end of side one that it took so long for the arm to come back LOL

That Rush vinyl seems great, it occurred to me that they probably will release them continuously on their 40th anniversary.

I still haven't listened to that Haken EP and I really liked The Mountain. Did you see the cassette version of The Moutain that they released? Tongue

Probably SW was right releasing this way: everyone should have a break after the awesomeness of Luminol Big smile
