Embarrassed

I was just checking to see if you had heard of them, I would recommend Piramida to start

I have Efterklang's second and third albums. Parades is the best I think. Magic Chairs doesn't really do it for me.

Tony, you mentioned Foxygen before.  What's your take on them? I haven't heard them but they sound interesting on paper.

I need to listen to their album from last year, which I've heard is better. Their newest was recommended to me by a friend. It succeeds in being a consistently entertaining double album, but it's kind scattered and unsatisfying. It's basically like the White Album without tact. The best description I heard of the album is as if they had said "We've had a lot of ideas since our last album. Here's all of them." From what I've read and heard, they were previously a little more satirical than they were with this album, too.

Sounds pretty neat.  Sometimes unfocused stuff can be really fun.  Other times it can be really boring.  We shall see.

I definitely found it more on the fun side. There are plenty of good pop songs, surreal synth instrumentals, and BS jams. It just wouldn't rank as one of my favorites from this year.

Foxygen are another band on my list. I was surprised at Fantano's review, it was the most harsh video he's done in recent memory.

I think you'd like Foxygen. They remind me of Ozark Soundscape even.

I think Fantano was probably more disappointed than anybody because their last album was so high on his list last year.

Oh, yeah, that one was scathing. I still haven't listened to her.

I'll have to check them out, soon, then!

In other news, the new Ariel Pink is amazing.

Did you listen to the video I posted of them? If not their new album is kind of like Nick Cave meets Joy Division meets Bauhaus meets Velvet Underground. Really cool stuff and only second to To Be Kind for my AOTY. Perfect explorable counterpart to TBK's once-a-month-ness.

TBK (or any Swans album) is an event. I don't listen to the album everyday for a reason. Same with Tago Mago, Kid A, and some of my other favorite moments that are best (imo) listened to that way.
