New and old/obscure as usual. The new from the cellar & point (their choice, the lower case). Not sure how you categorise their music (or perhaps I shouldn't... but for the uninitiated): chamber jazz (not like ECM's) , nu jazz (not Nordic) or what ? Simply the range of musical influences used make us very interested and want to play their music here. Mats Morgan's album release in early summer also by Cuneiform, lingers with me - they have a knack for good whistleable tunes. Newie from Primus, calibrating the Gene WIlder version of 'Charlie & The Chocolate factory' - expect some Claypole wackiness! Newie from Bela Fleck & partner Abagail Washburn.  And got my sticky fingers on some Japanese remasters, i.e. UK, Stranglers (oddly, I found a good band to avoid the excesses of Yes in the mid-late 70's). Perhaps the only obvious difference is that the remasters sound louder at the same volume setting on my amp. I note, that a surprise hit here the Blue Eyed Hawk's album, got 4 from 5 stars in the latest reviews in Jazzwise.  Uploaded last Thursday's show a couple of  hours ago, but still awaiting notification of the pass code from We Transfer.

Since posting my intention of doing a Jack Bruce special this lunchtime, I've received two requests for specific music which meant changes. Then also I reminded myself, that in putting 90% of the show together last night, I had forgotten Bruce's contribution to the avant jazz of Michael Mantler and the pop hits of the Manfred Mann Band in the mid 60's. (Hence the belated inclusion of a live version by the co-composers (i.e. Bruce & Jones) of 'Sonny Boy Williamson', coming together,  many  years after my hearing the more commonly played Kooper/Bloomfield version). And besides my 'Escalator Over The Hill' is on vinyl......So 'Traintime 'has been sacrificed from the provisional playlist. I make not apologies including two Kip Hanrahan tracks, a body of work by Bruce too often neglected. In some cases I've avoided the original versions - Bruce seemed to added a Latin groove to some familiar Cream tunes when re-recording these. BTW how many times did Bruce record I Feel Free - I have three version including the single that was used as Renault car advert music. However, something I've never nailed, was a recording of a concert of Jack Bruce, Sting (and was it with a German jazz diva?), singing Kurt Weill in German, when reportedly Bruce's performance blow Sting off the stage.

As ever the first 30 minutes or so are anchored in jazz, before we broaden out wrt the musical forms
