I was just able to get the new album, and am listening to it right now. I'm really enjoying it very much. There are a few things I can imagine might have been better... mainly, they should have made sure to get Dick Parry on Sax, he is an important part of the Pink Floyd sound whenever there is a sax in the music (even if he's not an official member), and the guy they used just doesn't do the band justice. Also, I'm a bit sad that Louder than Words isn't as great as other songs from the band. High Hopes was one of their best, and up until this year, the band had closed their career with such a song. But now that this album was released, their new final song just isn't as great, and I think Gilmour should have put some extra effort to make it live up to High Hopes. Perhaps some better vocal melodies (the beginning of the song was really beautiful, though), and a longer and better final solo... perhaps, they might even have made it a bit better if they had arranged that side 4 in a different way, puting the section of surfacing at the very end, as part of the guitar solo from Louder than Words.

Oooh! Top 10 Floyd albums! Truly an introspective exercise.

Let's see:

Wish You Were Here
Animals
Meddle
Dark Side of the Moon
Ummagumma
The Endless River
Division Bell
Obscured by Clouds
Piper at the Gates of Dawn
A Saucerful of Secrets

#6 for me (at least this week). Pretty darn good album!

And consider that Ummagumma (#5) is a curiosity I like to revisit, but I've never been sure if it's actually any good. It's kind of like gawking at a car accident as you drive by.

I've not heard it yet.  Embarrassed  I actually decided to put it on my Christmas list, so probably won't hear it until after the holidays.

No need for embarrassment, Scott. Exactly the same in Lazland. It will be my son's birthday present to me at the end of the month
Glad to know that I am not the only one who waited.  LOL

I really see it as an epilog, a final summary if you like, with the previous 'chapters' being the core of the Pink Floyd book. That being said, if one insists enough, I guess it would sit 'comfortably'at #5 or #6.
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Sometimes I feel like that first PF's albums are not appreciated, unfortunately... So many people know Another Brick in the Wall, Money but don't know Interstellar Overdrive, A Saucerful of Secrets, The Narrow Way pt. 3. Btw, my track is Shine On You Crazy Diamond but favourite album probably Ummagumma but I can't say why. :D :D
