Some of you may have made this observation before, but if you listen to the verse in Yes' Wonderous Stories (in the giving of my eyes to see your face, as he spoke my spirit climbed into the sky, etc), it sounds like the second part of DT's Octavarium, Medicate (side effects appear, as my conscience slips away, etc).

hmmmm sarcasm, kind of a son of a bitch in a way. on topic, i haven't heard this epic though i hear really great things on it, some considering it the best DT song, and its sounds interesting that this is the case. by the looks of things, i don't think these lyrics are not to what i expected, but i could be wrong. i think this wasn't the only song that is referenced in its lyrics according to the internet.

"Octavarium" references a number of progressive rock entities, but I think this is a coincidence rather than a deliberate reference. 

I just played the section of "Octarvium" though and worked out the chords and melody.

Asus2 / Fmaj7 / F#m / Fmaj7

The melody alternates between the A major scale and the C major scale (due to the Fmaj7).  The particular part you are referencing begins on the A note and walks up the C major scale but backs down to the E note.

James LaBrie is singing: A (as) B (my) C (con) D (science) E (slips) F (a) E (way).

With "Wonderous Stories," the chords for the relevant section are

Dm / A

Jon Anderson is singing A (spoke) B (my) C (spir) D (it) E (climbed) F (in) G (to) A (the) A (sky)

So yes, the melodies are similar (though not identical), but only because they superimpose the C major scale (over the IV and ii chords, respectively)  and resolve back to the key of A.

James LaBrie might have been subconsciously influenced by the melody which would have partly resurfaced when writing Octavarium, judging by the fact that DT cites Yes as one of their main influences.

Always thought at first listening the song of DT, that before the 4:00 minutes mark the guitar bursting in was a rip off of Yes

I ironically heard Octavarium today on drive home from work... I didnt consider the Yes classic at all. However the similarity exists but  then again there are so many parts that are purely DreaM tHEATER. In any case its a brilliant song and deserves recognition in threads like this one

Sure Octavarium has some similarities to Yes and Pink Floyd. But it sounds more DT than anything else.

I'd say that Images and Words is there most Yes attempt. The lyrics seem to be inspired by Jon Anderson.

Funny because that same line you mention ("in the giving of my eyes to see your face...") to me sounds like "run away and hide from everyone..." from The Alan Parson's Project's "don't answer me." I haven't heard the DT track but I'll check it out.
