I'm 32 and I had my first experience with progressive rock when I was 4. Rush were the first prog band I ever heard. I believe it was the "A Show Of Hands" concert, but we also used to have 'dance nights' at the house and Rush would be featured on the turntable quite frequently.

So in a way, you've grown up with PA.

Boy...that's kind of depressing to think about.

Hmmm...so far we have 87 people responding with 44 being under 40 and 43 members over 40.
A pretty even breakdown which surprises me a little. I assumed there would be many more over 40 since so many of us older guys grew up listening to the old time classic  prog bands .
As an example my son in law doesn't really listen to prog even though I have tried my best and he's 31. My other son in law 32 doesn't listen to prog either and my daughter's ex  husband who is 34 listens to some prog and heavy metal but not really to old or new prog bands per se.
The only people I know in person who listen to all kinds of prog are all about 50  and older.

Half the people over 50 I know don't even own computers let alone have internet access, so that surely plays a part

Not quite sure what you mean, can you remember what your were listening at 4? A Show Of Hands is from 1989, that's 25 years ago so if you are 32 now things do not add up, you were at least 7 when you heard it for the first time.

it might've NOT been '89 when he first heard (or seen) it

Oh my... Here in Russia 146 became a synonym of very "fair" elections.

It's no surprise that someone's f$%king with the numbers. What surprises me is that they weren't careful enough when crunching numbers.
