Infandous,
RE: Tour Kaputt…that is weird that the CD and DVD are sold separately and identical liner notes etc. I think I'll get the DVD. From what I've seen it looks like their most well produced DVD. Just a good concert DVD with a few cameras. Not all the staged stuff that was Meet TFK and Instant Delivery. I hated instant delivery with all the cameras in view. I've still not really warmed up to DR, but damn do I love Interstellar Variations. That's a keeper. Have also been revisiting Agents of Mercy. Nothing really holds up for me except a few tracks on on the debut. I plan on listening to some Karmakanic and Kaipa today. I know Karmakanic put out a live one. Need to check that out too. Peace!

I thought Instant Delivery was a great live DVD, I just didn't much like the set list. Far too heavy on PH album (which I love, don't get me wrong) and only really 2 "medleys' of older stuff. I hate when they truncate epics, just doesn't work for me for some reason. Meet TFK was the greatest set list ever, but was hardly a real live show. Still my favorite DVD though, although Tour Kaputt is a very close second.
Yeah, DR I like a lot better than Banks, but it's still a far cry from most of the albums before those two. Interstellar Visitations is a great one though, agreed. I still like the Agents stuff, though I don't think it comes close to most FK material...........the best of it though, I prefer to the last two TFK albums. Karmakanic really just doesn't do a lot for me. I love the second album, and they were great when the did the tour with Agents, but I've listened to that new live album and it seems incredibly sterile to me. The playing is phenomenal, but it just seems like my attention drifts frequently. I've never been very fond of Goran's vocals either. Edited by infandous - June 23 2014 at 10:45 |

yeah, i don't like those truncated songs either. i guess that's why i didn't like Instant Delivery either. also, i just think it's lacking in production value. i do still love meet the flower kings. i know roine mentioned that a Banks tour DVD is a possibility. that would be cool. the vids i've seen of Numbers live i liked. i haven't given much attention to the karmakanic live disc. need to do that. i will say the epics lose my attention. there's some good moments there though. btw, have any of y'all seen the youtube stuff of jon anderson and TA on that recent prog cruise? they did revealing science of god! nuts!

I also first bought Unfold The Future. Actually it was the first prog album I bought. Great album, specially The Truth Will Set You Free is probably one of the greatest songs ever. But it took me some time to get into it :D

Hey Guys!
I headed over the TFK yahoo group to see if there was any news. Turns out there is! 1. Roine's going to be playing some shows with Kaipa doing the 70s songs. 2. Roine is working on some sort of high profile project…? 3. Tomas, Felix and Jonas have some sort of jazz trio album coming out. 4. First vinyl reissue will be Stardust We Are. Did I miss anything?

Didn't occur to me to post that stuff here, for some reason. I had seen about the Kaipa (well, minus Hans Lundin and plus Tomas and Michael Stolt) a few months ago on Roine's Facebook. Strictly a nordic thing, no Europe or USA as far as I can tell. Also, Tomas has been talking about Barracuda on his Facebook for quite a while, but they are doing their first show and have an album ready to go. It's not jazz at all though, according to Tomas, but some sort of prog power trio type deal I guess (all instrumental). The other two I just found on on the Yahoo group, same as you. Doesn't seem like you missed anything, other than Roine suggesting that the final TA show at Lorely might be their last ever (though he just says that since it's a side project, you never know if they'll do anything again.......I think he's said stuff like that before though). |

Wow, so there are two versions of Kaipa now? Weird. Roine does say that he's working on several studio projects and one is high profile. Not sure what those could be. Maybe playing on other people's albums? Also, the buzz about TA is definitely not as it was with Whirlwind. Of course that was a comeback, but the last album was just so subpar. Although not mentioned on the list, I think Hasse has a new album coming out too sometime soon.

This one actually grew on me much quicker than The Whirlwind, though I wouldn't say it's better. It sounded a bit lackluster at first but now it all sounds pretty damn good. There are the usual good melodies all over the place. It's my favorite of this year, though what I heard from the Glass Hammer was very good as well. |

Well, frankly I think Glass Hammer's last two albums are better than the last two TA albums by a mile. Kaleidescope didn't grow on me at all.........quite the opposite. After about 10 listens I just couldn't stand to hear the two ballads anymore and the epics are so predictable as to be almost laughable. But maybe I'm just getting tired of the Neal Morse formula, which is quite dominant on the album. You mention melodies, which are probably the main thing that bothers me about the album.........they are weak, unoriginal, and just not very good. To each his own though, and I'm glad that some people are getting more out of the album than I did. |

I've owned Stardust We Are for a few months now, and I have to say that Just This Once is the song that pops into my head more often than any other. I wouldn't say I like it more than the title track, but it's definitely 2nd on my list.

Great to see you Geek, I've been away for a while myself.
So, bring on the hate my friends, I reviewed 'The Whirlwind' the album didn't do anything for me. As I mentioned a few posts ago, I want to get back in the habit of reviewing again, but didn't want to continually do the easy reviews, so I picked a tougher one. Anyone else unimpressed by 'The Whirlwind'? And for that matter, is there anyone out there that hated 'The Whirlwind' but loved 'Kaleidoscope'? |

Hi Guys.... Truth is, I've been looking for a place to cut in line here for a while, but I just didn't have the right thing to say.... But then I thought the above bit of sheer lunacy was the perfect opportunity! Barney me laddie!!!! This post is a bit of a reach even for you, m8. ![]() Greetings to all! Too many good friends to list all the names. And it is nice to see so many new faces here. i do have one Flower King question: When will Roine release some of his classic FK recordings mixed into 5.1? |
