Another great Rush album. What would your top 5 Rush albums look like, Catcher? |
The list changed this morning......from yesterday |
I have a feeling this is going to be the same for me once I dive back into their discography again. But right now, without looking at anything for reference, my favorites are Grace Under Pressure, Hemispheres, 2112, Signals, and Permanent Waves.

I'm a big fan of their middle period albums where more keyboards were used. It gave the band a whole other layer of sound that you don't quite get with their earlier output. Needless to say, when Geddy started using more keyboards, I was thrilled by that sonic possibility and what it could do for their sound. Many Rush fans I've spoken with aren't that impressed with their 80s albums, but, for me, I think they reached a whole new level of musicianship with those recordings.

Rush is my alltime fav band....Genesis is #2. So that being said I love all Rush eras, I have a fondness for that synth 80s time frame, I do enjoy those albums Signals, GUP and HYF. Their musical cycles have always kept me enthused about what comes next...Even right now I wonder what they will do next. You will not hear me complaining about any of their eras, when you have a band that is around 40yrs of making music, there are bound to be many musical roads. How boring to be driving down the same road year after year....

I couldn't agree more. What do you think about Power Windows? This seems to be the 'redheaded step child' of Rush's 80s albums.

^^ PW was actually a breath of fresh air after GUP which was so dreary and un Rush-like

It's amazing how different people are. I didn't find Grace Under Pressure 'dreary' or 'un-Rush like' at all. Anyone else find Grace Under Pressure dreary?

Jumping in here. Power Windows for me the best 80's album, even the cover is special. Territories and Mystic Rhythms never cease to amaze me. I am a huge Genesis fan as you know but in retrospect I don't think any band managed the changes of the 80's decade more consistently than Rush

One thing about Power Windows is Alex's playing is so engaging. I still can't forget the first time I heard the solo to Big Money, it sent chills down my spine. Territories and Mystic Rhythms are great, too. For some reason, I get a sense of longing and even sadness in Power Windows. Am I the only one who hears this perhaps?
