"Listen, you know I love you, but I just can't take this,
You know I love you, but I'm playing for keeps, Although I need you, I'm not gonna make this, You know I want to, but I'm in too deep." Basically here Collins sings about a man who is making love to a woman he thinks is wanting to leave the relationship, he want's to ejaculate inside her but fears it could lead to pregnancy. The Genesis song Tonight, Tonight is also a cleverly disguised song and it covers the topic of addiction... ...sex addiction.

Honest, most think it's a drug related song but it's definitely not. "I'm coming down, coming down like a monkey, but it's alright Like a load on your back that you can't see, ooh but it's alright Try to shake it loose, cut it free, just let it go, get it away from me. Cos tonight, tonight, tonight - oh, I'm gonna make it right Tonight, tonight, tonight - oh." "We're gonna make it right Tonight, tonight, tonight - oh." No matter how much he masturbates, trying to shake that load loose, he can't quench his sexual urges, he hopes a visit to a lady of the night will abate his insatiable desires. Plenty of 'oh' and 'ooh's' thrown in for effect too. Collins also explored extreme perversion in his song Thru These Walls: "I can hear through these walls I can hear it when they're foolin' around My favorite moment putting the glass up next to the wall I can see through my windows Life is so lonely and I don't get high off just being me Oo I'm feeling like I'm locked in a cage no way in, no way out And I can hear through these walls Ah yeah Edited by Matthew _Gill - June 02 2014 at 11:29 |

All right, you lost me with "Tonight Tonight Tonight". If that song isn't about drugs then my name ain't Nathan Arizona.

Nope, sex addiction, Genesis are very clever. Sometimes when they performed live they'd change the lyrics around or tell stories just to confirm our suspicions! "Ooh she's got a body under that shirt but the only thing she'll rub is my face in the dirt." The Way we walk live revision is slightly more obvious than the studio verse!

I know what I like (in your Wardrobe)
I'm going to cut straight to the point here, it's a song about anal sex.

I am curious what you believe "keep them mowing blades sharp" means, though. Wait, wait wait--I got this... it means circumcise your multiple phalluses, right?

No, the line refers to sustaining an erection. Mowing blade! "Sunday night, mr farmer called, said: Listen son, you're wasting your time; there's a future for youIn the fire escape trade. come up to town! But I remebered a voice from the past; Gambling only pays when you're winning - I had to thank old miss mort for schooling a failure. Keep them mowing blades sharp... I know what I like, and I like what I know; Getting better in your wardrobe, stepping one beyond your show." Basically Mr Farmer calling at night is his erection popping up, Genesis often use 'night' as code word for time/need for sex. Farmer equals plough/fertilizer/grow etc. Loose terms for 'giving it to someone' etc. At this point he's thinking of anal "fire escape!" to improve his sex life but a controlling female or former conquest at some stage or his life has made him a bit of a limp dick, "gambling (on anal) only pays when you hard/winning" so anal might be off the menu. He knows he prefers anal and the reference to stepping one beyond your show is to step up to the next hole.
