The scene of Allen trying to learn the office layout and then have that meeting is one of my favorite WA movie moments. |

Broadway Danny Rose
A gushing love letter to old school showbiz and one of the funniest movies ever made, BDR is Woody at the height of his creative powers, spinning one character after another each more bizarre than the last as he gets in deep with the New Jersey mob trying to help a client. |

I also enjoyed this hugely and Mia Farrow's performance as a gangster's moll was something I didn't think she had in her locker. |

Deconstructing Harry
Woody Allen's intimate portrayal of a depressed writer is full of unusual choices in style and tone for him, a schizophrenic plot and choppy camera work. Quite good overall with a slow humor that twists like a knife and a cascade of first-rate actors. |

Lone Survivor
Harrowing and completely involving true account of a small SEAL team on a mission in Afghanistan that goes progressively bad. Surely embellished but only to the point of illustration and believable without being hyper-realistic (e.g.Private Ryan), the movie is a cooker of suspense & action if a bit sentimental. |

RoboCop (2014)
Outstanding reboot of the 80s classic with a script that's smart, logical and flows effortlessly throughout, RoboCop is contemporary without being overly modern and avoids the splatter-flick mentality of the gritty and great original. Easily one of the best action films of the year. |

Speaking of dystopian future supercop movies, I just watched this. Never read the comics so I have no idea how faithful it is, but I still quite liked it. It's not often you get this kind of no-frills unpretentious-but-still-creative sci-fi action B-movie so well done as this. Edited by Toaster Mantis - June 07 2014 at 15:26 |

Friday the 13th (1980)
The simpleminded but fun and seminal slasher film holds up well, which is to say it's as stupid and oddly effective as it ever was with a budget comparable to that of a hotdog cart and enough cute chicks in underwear to still make the original among the best rainy-night-at-home fright flicks. The only actor to have made it out of this one with a career appears to be Kevin Bacon. |

Good, the original Robocop is pretty much a masterpiece. Sounds like the remake isn't really bad as much as the original represents some really big shoes to fill. |

Well yes it's a different animal. But I get the impression it was not liked, which is too bad.

The last movie I watched was a South Korean movie called BREATHLESS. It's about families trapped in cycles of domestic violence. Very grim and heavy but also a very good movie.

Is it a Kim Ki-duk joint? Incredibly depressing yet indescribably beautiful films seem to be his forte. |
