I don't have a culture. I don't believe in representing your heritage or any of that stuff.

Why would anyone care about their heritage? I'd rather push into territory in which I am not familiar.

You don't have a culture. That's insane. Culture is essential to human life

How is that insane?

What is my culture if there is one?

How is culture essential to human life?

Really weird thing about the UK during the 70's was the skinhead culture which adopted Reggae as it's music of choice. To be fair, I think the roots of this movement were very far removed from the far right fascistic associations we ascribe to it now.

He's made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to be referred to as a chicano, why is that so difficult to understand and respect?

How is that insane? It's insane because we all have ways of viewing life  and we cannot live life if we are left without values, views, intellectual achievements, the arts, MUZAK, or Edward Penishands.

What is my culture if there is one? You're culture is what you make of it

How is culture essential to human life? What we do in this world of ours is Culture whatever the heck it might be

Oh well. usually I don't consider entertainment or music as part of a culture that i exist in. Most of the music I listen to is not from where I live. Maybe I would be considered a part of internet culture then?

So basically I make my own culture. That's fine. I understand that. I guess I just consider myself not part of anything because I really do not like my home country. Gross. I like living in my own independent world

I know that. However, look back at the posts and you will see that I never IMPOSED anything on anyone. Look back at the post where I said Some people don't mind being called Hispanic but I mind. Anyway, everything is cool between T and I Smile

That is correct. No need to talk about that anymore. There is understanding now.

We can go back to talking about Americans who have no culture

My family (Angles and Swedes) came to America via England in 1620. Today I have a step-brother who is half Native American, a half-brother whose family comes from the old Virginian Burgesses, and step half-brother who is half African American. My wife is Mexican, my sister married a half-Japanese, half-Filipino, a cousin and a niece married Mexicans, two cousins are gay, we even have some Republicans in the family. Our kids are a big hot ethnic, religious, cultural, political and ideological mess.

That's a form of American culture I find to be both interesting and worth celebrating. Do we have ancient traditions and norms that form our opinions and culture today? Yes and no. I think many Americans are more interested in possibilities and the future, and less so in the past. Works for us, I think.
