When you hear an African-American 'rap', they do it with passion and panache, when white folk 'rap', it sounds contrived and try-hard. BTW, I am NOT a fan of this style, and this thread, ultimately, has nothing to do with Rap music, but it too, does have Kulcha

'All You Need is Love' is an English import, like A Clockwork Orange or James Bond.   Further, white people in the US (and Hispanics too) buy as much or more Hip-Hop than Rock or Pop, so your statement indicates a misunderstanding of the culture, which appears to be quite a common thing.

Yo, David I prefer the term Chicano rather than Hispanic it makes us seem as if we are foreigners in our own land

Disposable culture is more accurate. Popular today passe tomorrow. Everyone will enjoy 15 minutes of fame. OK Rap I had an E from a mate early rap Lorne Green Ringo, Jimmy Dean big bad John, Benny Hill did some rap. Walter Brennon That mule old Rivers and me. Telly Sevales (sic) did an entire rap LP once. A guy Named Wally George? Brook Benton The Bollweevil Song. Frank Zappa :all the great music has been done by guys in wigs. I saw some art from a guy named Andrew Wyeth, and Buckminster Fuller, Frank L. Wright, Norman Rockwell, A Grandma Moses and her simple but expressive form, And I also had a crash course in Copeland and his Hoe Down and remebered ELP did a rendition of it. So I stand corrected and there is a trace of original form of art and (sh*t I hate to say it) "culture" in America.

NO. WRONG. Chicano has relation to Mexicans and ALL HISPANICS ARE NOT MEXICANS.

There's nothing I detest more in America than seeing Americans who think all hispanics celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Don't call me chicano.

From Wikipedia:

The terms Chicano or Chicana (also spelled Xicano or Xicana) is a chosen identity of Mexican-Americans in the United States. The term "Chicano" is interchangeable with Mexican-American.

Yes, we are. From hispanic descent, with a hispanic tongue, conquered by Spain (or Portugal). Yes. We all are.

^^ The term Chicano can also be applied to Central Americans from Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Ecuadorian ancestry living or born in the US. It is not exclusive to Mexican-Americans. You think that we are of hispanic descent but in reality we have or might have indigenous blood in us so  you can't count that out either

Americans who think all hispanics are chicano or Mexican then deserve the "Americans have no culture" thing. It is an insult to paint everybody who speaks one language as if they all were from the same place. You don't have to ask nobody David, this is factually true. Not all hispanics are Mexicans or Chicano. Check a map.

Okay, since you insist, another one:

Usage Note: Chicano is used only of Mexican Americans, not of Mexicans living in Mexico. It was originally an informal term in English (as in Spanish), and the spelling of the first recorded instance in an American publication followed the Spanish custom of lowercasing nouns of national or ethnic origin. However, the literary and political movements of the 1960s and 1970s among Mexican Americans established Chicano as a term of ethnic pride, and it is properly written today with a capital. · While Chicano is a term of pride for many Mexican Americans, it remains a word with strong political associations. Since these politics are not necessarily espoused by all Mexican Americans, and since usage and acceptance of this word can vary from one region to another, an outsider who is unfamiliar with his or her audience may do well to use Mexican American instead. See Usage Note at Hispanic.

What about Latino or Latin American ?   I guess I'm unconsciously trying to find a blanket term, and that might not exist.
