As my wife would so eloquently put it - "I'd rather stick wasps up my arse" than listen to Krautrock.

Position stated.

I can't say I'm a massive fan but that's a bit too far, speaking as someone who once crawled through a wasps nest.

Kobaian? KOBAIAN?

For Kobaian, read "couldn't be bothered with lyrics, so just decided to make noises"

Here's a good sheddite topic - my wilting jasmine

Bought a nice looking specimen at a good local nursery a couple of months back, planted it out & all seemed well until a week or so ago - now all the new growth it's put on has begun to wilt alarmingly. Looking online, it appear this could be down to over watering/under watering/too much sun/too little sun.

The general consensus appears to be leave it to its own devices, don't water for a week & see if it picks up.

The nursery we bought it from has a great reputation & we've had many plants from there in the past with no problem

Any ideas?

Sorry Jim but that fully warrants an "ooh err missus".

As for your plant, I'm sadly clueless about gardening, this is probably a job for Dean.

Over-watering generally turns leaves yellow, though they also go yellow with under-watering too it usually takes longer so my guess is under-watering and too much sun. You might want to check for bugs on the leaf stalks and on the underside of the leaves. It also depends on whether you have summer or winter jasmine as one likes full sun and the other doesn't, however both like to be kept relatively warm and sheltered.

I planted a winter jasmine against an east-north-east facing wall by the front door many years ago, it's in less than an inch of really poor top-spoil on top of clay and flint that's as hard as concrete and dry as a bone, (I had to use a pick-axe to dig it over). Since it's at the front of the house I can never be bothered to wheel the hose around to water it, so it is left to fend for itself watered only by the run-off from the porch. Being predominately east-facing and shadowed by two large rhododendrons it gets very little sun but the wall obviously keeps it warm and the rhodies protect it from the wind to some extent.

For the first couple of years it always looked if it was on its last legs and only produced a couple of flowers each year if we were lucky. Now its gone mad, growing up and over the porch, around the guttering and gets under the roof slates, it even managed to work its way into the porch light. Since I am crap at pruning it's never been the mass of flowers that we hoped for so the idea of having the heady scent of jasmine to greet us as we fumble for the door-key failed, but that's a sign of my laziness rather than the fault of the plant. Anyway at least it's a bit of greenery.

PS: to wilt through over-watering take a lot of water, and that should be easy to spot as the soil would be more-or-less permanently sodden. Even with poor drainage it's quite difficult to over-water outside, especially in this weather.

I wasn't sure about the over-watering theory myself to be honest. The plant's against a south-ish facing fence & that side of the garden's pretty well drained.

Also seems a coincidence we noticed it when we got back from a week away - we had pretty good weather but I think where we live had a fair bit of rain so I don't think under-watering.

The Jasmine has plenty of buds on it & looks to be about to explode in flowers, it's just that there is some serious wilt going on...

...and yes, Alan... I fully realise that a middle aged man complaining about his jasmine wilting for no reason leaves (sic) him wide open to oo-er missus-isms

My youngest has expressed an interest in studying astrophysics (or "spacey stuff" as he calls it) at Uni, so we bought a telescope at the weekend for the purpose of studying said spacey stuff.

Coming back round the M25 Saturday night, the moon was extraordinarily large on the horizon, so we rushed home, set the telescope up, called my son down to have a look, at which point the moon was immediately covered in cloud for the rest of the evening and there's hasn't been sight of a single star since. Unhappy

So does that mean if you sell it on, we'll get better weather by way of Sod's Law?

Probably, though I haven't affected the weather here as far as I can tell, it's been very nice for the last couple of weeks. Just the Censored clouds at night.
