Topic: R.I.P. Nash the Slash Posted: May 13 2014 at 12:49 |
I don't know if Nash was on many PA radar screens, but the guy was amazing! Check out his video in this story & please provide your own thoughts.
Nash admitted to being heavily influenced by Robert Fripp, and he loved the "power chord" approach, which he used on mandolin.
RiP Nash!

I can't say that I was super familiar with him, but I like the couple of FM albums that I have heard. If I recall correctly he also appeared on either Geddy Lee's or Alex Lifeson's solo album.
****I recalled incorrectly. It was his replacement Ben Mink who appeared on Geddy Lee's solo album.

Yes, quite sad, an electronic music pioneer. It is certainly odd he doesn't have an entry in prograrchives. I'll have to work on that if nobody else will. Most people know of his work with FM, but his four solo albums Bedside Companion, Dreams and Nightmares, Decomposing, and Children of the Night are reminiscent of Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze of the 1970s.

Sad that it was the record companies and file sharing that made him retire from music. Such a talent. I remember Black Noise fondly.
Nash the Slash was a pretty badass persona as well.

Very sad! I adore the first FM album (kind of like a spacey Kansas in parts!), and I just bought the latest CD remaster of it only a few months ago. It's constantly been on my Ipod, I really treasure that album.

I always admired his style/persona. Never understood it, but I loved it. Black Noise is one of my favorite albums. That record has probably more play than any other. If I wanted a meditative soundtrack to do homework to, that was my choice. If I just felt like a remarkable, fun spacey prog album, there it was.

I am only familiar with his work on FM's Black Noise but I find it quite impressive and innovative. Another sad loss. Condolences to family and friend. I hope his journey to Aldeberan is a safe one.

ironically he left FM because felt their music was going into less progressive commercial direction, but his solo albums were far more commerical than FM's Surveillance and City of Fear with mandolinist/violence Ben Mink.
When he returned, FM went into a total pop direction with recordings like Contest
