Hard to say.  I'm not that familiar with VDGG and have had a hard time trying to get into them.  This one has pretty good potential though.  The sax seems to be cleaner with less of a cat strangling sound than some of the previous albums.  I've not quite been able to get into Peter Hammill's voice yet, but once I clear that hurdle I can see myself really liking this album and band.

Hammill's voice is something I'm also trying wrap my head around. I wouldn't say he has a terrible voice of course, but his delivery is so unusual. The music itself is great, though, so I've found an easy way in here. I think one thing I also find appealing is the arrangement of the music. Someone who does prog reviews on YouTube called VDGG 'gothic horror prog'. I suppose that's about right as the music does seem darkly laced and quite ominous.

Have you heard Godbluff? This is an outstanding album.

I purchased Godbluff fairly recently and have heard it a couple of times also.  My feelings are similar.  I quite like it musically; just similar issues with Hammill's voice.

1st listen to this one on Grooveshark:

World Record

I'm not sure if you are familiar with the American band Discipline, but their vocalist Matthew Parmenter, is a big fan of Peter Hammill and he has a voice which is similar in sound.  I think that they could also be described as "gothic horror prog".

I also find that his vocals are quite similar to Rob Halford of Judas Priest fame.  I am a huge JP fan so I would think that I would also like Hammill's voice, but to a certain extent it sounds like Judas Priest out of context or something to me. LOL
