Replace MP3 with OGG and you have my answer.
Although I do have FLAC backups for all my physical discs. |
You do right!

I just like the fact that I can use MP3 on any device. OGG/Vorbis may be superior in quality, but usability is very important for me, and you can't hear a difference between either MP3, OGG/Vorbis or FLAC at these bitrates anyway. Granted, FLAC is cool because you can use it to create MP3 or OGG/Vorbis on the fly when streaming via Subsonic/Audiogalaxy without any loss through transcoding. But many years ago, when I started to rip my collection, I neither had the storage capacity nor the mobile player / network for this streaming solution. So all things considered, I'm happy and content with my collection of 16,000+ 100% legit MP3 tracks.

^ I always enjoyed computer games too much to become a linux user at home. But at work and when it comes to internet servers, count me in!

Aww yeah, bringing back four year old threads. I'm surprised I couldn't find a more recent one. I thought every music forum needed at least six of these.
Vinyl +Free Digital Download > CDs > Vinyl > Digital > Reel to reel* > Cassette > 8-track* > Any other obscure formats
*Based on what I've heard about them, I haven't actually used them

Vinyls. There's a reverence about the medium that really connects with me.

Vinyl > CD > MiniDisc > FLAC > Ogg Vorbis > MP3
I have some vinyls/CD's that I recorded on MiniDisc and it sounds great

Why isn't Compact Cassette an option..? I will live and die with cassettes. To hell with perfect fidelity; I like the way they influence the sound! I like the hiss, too...

All that matters to me is that I hear it, at all. Because of this mp3 is the most important format to me. If not for mp3 torrentz (I'll learn to convert flac someday) my prog library would be starved instead of bloated. I'd prefer to have tons of prog on vinyl but, that said, I'd also prefer to be a member (instead of just a caddie), prefer to be driving a Bugatti Veyron, and prefer to be engaged to Emma Watson.

Well in the 4yrs of this poll..my listening habits have gone to about 95% vinyl..balance between CD's and digital files.
I've put time and a budget into my analog rig, best thing I have done for my ears in the past 10yrs.

I like bashing two bricks together. Seriously, I do WMA for my portable copies. Quit buying "vinyl" years ago. Give me a good CD or DVD. I just got the Genesis 70-75 box set. They did it right.

BTW I may have mentioned this before. Get a black light bulb and look at your "vinyls" under ultraviolet. You should see some pretty cool things.

The other day while clearing out the spare room I found a box of minidiscs. Fortunately I also found the Kenwood player to play them on.
Ah the nostalgia of it all, those were the days eh? No hiss, no skipping, no risk of damage to the playing surface...

I guess I'm going to have to go out and buy a black light (UV) bulb and prove that I wasn't imagining things, which I will concede is entirely a possibility...
