Just listened to Radiation, and it's not as bad as its reputation suggests. Sure, the first few songs are more straightforward, but well written, the slower tunes are quite pleasant, and the last 2 tracks are back to Prog territory, and what they do best. The raw production is actually a nice touch for them.

its a classic Marillion album seasons end, its the album I`d stopped listenin` to the band, becausce I`d have to say closed mind as I`m a fishhead. but once I`d opened up my ears, I`d turned to seasons end `n` I was hooked on them    sorry about the pun

Thought I might mention a massive revelation I've experienced recently.........
Years ago, I gave up on Marillion, after Afraid Of Sunlight. Then, with the recent vinyl editions of .Com, Radiation and This Strange Engine, I was urged by one Aussie Byrd Brother (of PA fame) to snap them up.
Reluctantly, I bought them over time and thought they're O.K., some really good stuff here and there, but nothing blowing.
Here's the bit : I've been concentrating on TSE, and it's bloody awesome, with the titular epic totally bowling me over. And there is a REMARKABLE section approaching the climactic end section, the passage just when h sing "From Crimson to black. But coming back...." Then THE BEST passage of Marillion music I've heard to date plays through - Rothery solo is just sublime, with Kelly's ethereal keys and subtle rhythm section virtually bringing tears to my eyes.........
Just incredible.    Rant over......

I have the original EMI version I bought back in '89 - no gatefold, no lyrics, no credits, just the cover - and all it says on the back after the song titles is .... "This album was produced" ...........not even who by, or dates or location.... or who plays in the band. I had to look at the LP label to notice the new name Hogarth (and a Selmer to less extent). Almost thought they'd employed Lou Gramm from Foreigner........

^ Oh, I was hazy on the info.....just got my vinyl in front of me now - it does say it was produced by Nick Davis & Marillion, and This album was recorded and mixed.   I'm sure one album does say 'this album was produced'......
Oh, and it's Helmer, not Selmer..........

Afraid of Sunlight has "this album was rushed out"

I must prelude my ignorance for Marillion as I left the rock/prog music scene for instrumental stuff (got tired of vocals), such as jazz/fusion, classical, and electronic/new wave in the mid-80s through the 90s until finding my prog musical roots again in the 2000s.  So I knew nothing of Marillion and its history until PA and a few years ago I picked up a cheesy, "Best of Marillion" that was from the Fish era...some nice moments but did not blow me away.
