By far my least favourite of their five albums, but still unmistakably U.S. Maple. What are your thoughts, Steve?

I'm still having a tough time with US Maple.  On paper I should like them, but I just can't get into it.  I've heard this one and Sang Phat Editor.  It's like the music is lacking an anchor of some sort, it needs more low end.

Sang Phat Editor and Talker happen to be their weirdest albums. "Lacking an anchor" describes their writing style very well (they replicated this stuff accurately on stage, going by various sources). The debut is my favourite, which is insanely fun Beefheartesque avant-rock with a 90's noise rock feel. The last two albums Acre Thrills and Purple on Time are superb too. They are more melodic and feature slightly more conventional song structures. I love Sang Phat Editor as well, and how much they make use out of the deconstruction approach. Talker doesn't sit well with me for some reason, and I'm still not sure why. But yeah, definitely one of my favourite bands.

Black Sabbath
meets hardcore punk in slo-mo meets greasy biker rock in slo-mo with guitar solos that sound like a cross between screeching nails on chalkboards echoing through empty warehouses and vacuum cleaners molesting other vacuum cleaners.
