They're finally getting going again in Bristol!  Under the lights!

EDIT: Ugh, Kyle, you're killing me.  You've been very mediocre so far this year.

^ I turned it on just to see Harvick's engine blow up. Satisfaction.

Not a bad race at all.  Pretty competitive race with a few twists, turns and rain.  Fairly bizarre day overall with the F1 race and then the Cup race.  Not bad by any means, but just very bizarre.

Yeah, Kevin's done better in one race than Jan did in his entire time in F1.

I think Kamui gets a lot of stick because of previous Japanese drivers, several of which were quick but crashed quite often. Kobayashi crashing is actually quite rare.

I do recall Takuma Sato...at the time he was the most successful Japanese driver (IDK how it translates now with the diff point system) and I liked him a lot. He was fast, but certainly a bit crashy. Won't forget the race when he scored a few points in the Super Aguri with his epic run in the last few laps...I think it was like 5 positions gained in 15 and involved passing Alonso along the way.
Kam is smoother, and I think would be great in a higher ride some day!

Funny, I only knew of Jan Magnussen because of his time in Sports Cars, and I think I recall hearing the name when they'd play decade old F1 races. Certainly his son is off to a brilliant start. Now that he's been upped to 2nd, I believe that makes it the best debut ever in F1, at least the best "real" debut? I know Jacques was a previous CART champion which was more of a legit series than a feeder.

Giancarlo Baghetti won on his debut in the world championship back in the 1961 French GP for Ferrari, the only championship race he won (he won several none championship races though), so that remains the best debut ever.

I think Sato and Kobayashi are tied as the most successful Japanese drivers, though I don't know about their points tallys. They're still the only Japanese drivers to earn podiums fully on merit and not from high attrition.

And Jan's still a top GT driver, his Corvette was leading at Sebring until a fuel pump problem dropped it a few laps off the lead.

Ah I see. Well not to take away from Baghetti but I do think it's fair to say the field is so much more fierce today.
And considering he's only 21 and came straight from Formula Renault...damn impressive.

Holy crap, another awesome finish in Fontana today in the Cup race and KyBu picks up his 29th career win!  I never thought I'd see two awesome races there in a row.  Here's the GWC finish:

^ Nice!

I have to say, the last couple of races really turned out well at Auto Club Speedway. Guess the track is finally developing some character.

Until they repave it, and then it all goes out the window.

The track has been fairly bumpy over the last few years and that's usually when it happens.  Plus, there were a lot of tire failures today, although, that was mainly due to fast, aggressive setups and not necessarily the tires.  The drivers don't want it to be repaved as they like it's current state, but it'll probably end up happening anyway.

True.

Let's hope not. The track used to be quite boring.

This upcoming weekend begins the 2014 Indycar season.
Aw yeah now we're in full racing mode

Edit: Oh sh*t, turns out JPM is jumping into the indy season, this will make me a lot more keen to watchSmile Glad to see, it was just a weird thought him being in stock cars

Sweet.

I was wondering when that was to begin.

Should be good, St Pete's is an excellent track and the Penske's and Ganassi cars as well as Justin Wilson's Dale Coyne (why the f**k is he not in a bigger team?) car have all been very fast in testing, looking forward to it. Jacques Viellneuve in Schmidt Peterson car at Indy should be interesting as well.

I'm excited as well.  Kanaan to Ganassi has me rooting for a Ganassi car and JPM and Castroneves have me rooting for two Penske cars.  Feels kind of weird, but this should be a fairly exciting season.

Hell yeah! Maybe Kanaan will have a bounce back year. He's been chilling in the "meh" area for a while now.
That epic 2004 title that won my heart feels like soooo long ago :(

Of course I'll be pulling for JPM and Helio is always an easy one to pull for, perpetual bridesmaid LOL

^I thought that was Will Power!

Can't believe it's 10 years since Kanaan's title.

Helio has the long game over Power, though the latter's name is obviously more epic (and sadly ironic he can't win!)

Seriously, I feel old now. That was a beast year too...finished every lap. Not as spectacular as other titles I guess but more solid for sure.
