What a bizarre LP, like a 1970s psychedelic hard rock album with the sensibility of 1980s epic heavy metal. The overwhelming atmosphere of otherworldly gloom, exceptionally ambitious songwriting and absolutely inhuman-sounding shrieky vocals even foreshadow the most "out there" black metal of the 1990s.
"The past is not some static being, it is not a previous present, nor a present that has passed away; the past has its own dynamic being which is constantly renewed and renewing." - Claire Colebrook

Before they were an eccentric heavy/power metal group, they were a psychedelic hard rock group more befitting of their name... and every bit as good at that style as what they'd later become famous for. This entire "missing link between psychedelia and metal" scene is one of my favourite ones in rock history for a reason.

Gonna see what kind of music hides behind the wacky persona Mr. Cope became after the teardrop exploded.
