Geekfreak, have you read Neal's book, Testimony? It's worth getting hold of.

Yeah his Testimony bio is so good.  My admiration for Neal skyrocketed after reading it! Hard to believe my admiration could get any larger.

At the moment I can't think of any Neal Morse lyrics that touch me more than these:

I see a man with hair as white as wool [Rev 1:14]
Whose tongue's a sharp-edged tool [Rev 1:16]
With feet like burning brass [Rev 1:15]

"Come", he says, "I'll be your guide of sorts [Psa 43:3]
Into the outer courts
I have made a way [John 14:6]

For the unclean ones
To come into the gate [Heb 9:24]
To the weakest ones
I will give my strength [Isa 40:29]
And the lowest ones,
They will be brought higher [Isa 40:4]
Let the unclean ones
Be washed in the fire" [Mal 3:3]

I wouldn't say I would ever bitch about the new TA album...but I listened to the song Kaleidoscope on my way to work after not having played it for a few weeks.

I like it. It's okay. But to me it isn't great.

I enjoy the opening... up until the point when Neal sings.

I don't care for the part where Neal sings all that much, I find it simplistic (I know it sounds snobby) and maybe stadium rock-ish?

I really like the part Roine sings and the tasty instrumental that follows. Awesome.

I don't like the part where Pete sings. Just...I don't know...doesn't grab me.

Then back to Neal and that's not my fav either. It's okay, I like it...just not as good as other TA IMO.

Then there is an excellent section of proggy goodness before it's back to the overture to bring it all home.

So I like 3 sections a LOT and the others not as much.

btw - my favorite song on the album right now is Beyond the Sun. What a touching, haunting and beautiful song. So heartfelt how Neal sings it.

I just played the latest Spock's Beard, the last four tracks are better than anything on the new TA...and then the incomparable Raven that refused to sing.....That CD has sneaked up on me and I'd have to put it into the top 20 prog releases of ALL TIME!!
Lyrically superior to anything that Morse has done, the atmospherics , the doom laden delivery, emotionally driven by the power of human loneliness in the vast unsympathetic cosmos!. The only thing that saves TA is usually a Stolt guitar solo - and the new release hasn't got that either!

I`ve been listening to Steven Wilson from PT there first album, He as written some of the most thoughtful music. As as Neal which is why most of us enjoy progressive rock music..... They both give great talking points as well as the MUSIC.............
