Me and You Geek, I listened to DT latest on Friday night - it's a solid, prog metal effort! I tend not to listen to much thrash these days! more appeal in my younger days! I have to be in a certain mood to be receptive to growling !!!

Here would be my list. Add a few to your mix and good luck in your search ;)

1. John's Gospel
2. Mere Christianity - CS Lewis
3. Evidence That Demands a Verdict - Josh McDowell
4. The Devil's Delusion - David Berlinski (like Dennett, read slowly!)
5. Can a Man Live Without God - Ravi Zacharias
6. Lord of The Rings - JRR Tolkien

Hm' (4) do PEOPLE genuinely believe in the Devil anymore?? Might as well believe that if you dig too deep you awake the BALROG!! (6).
Funnily enough man has mined to ridiculous depths (in South Africa for instance.) and yet - No fiery monster with a similarly aflame whip has been found....strange though it may seem - Tolkien may have just made the whole thing up mind you it's a lot more believable than 99.9% of the fecking bible that's for sure!!!

Your condescending, non-stop "Christianity is a farce" posts are sad and pathetic, and have made this thread nearly unreadable now.  Nice going.

the fact you're taking this all personally indicates he's obviously hitting a nerve.  Christianity is a farce.  It might help comfort some people, but it's the comfort of delusion and a complete lack of responsibility for an endgame that IS genocide.

Not at all.  I find super religious people who are in your face about it just as annoying as people like M27Barney who feel the need to mock those who believe.  There are ways of disagreeing with Christianity, believers, etc. without mocking and denigrating them, just like there are ways of defending it without making non-believers feel like fools. Both extreme sides of the coin are equally annoying, as both act like they are so enlightened while trying to make those on the opposite side of the fence feel extremely small.

Biff, me owd china... Explain to me how can you make non-believers feel like fools? Oh I forgot - it's the old - You'll be sorry when my imaginary friend judges you and you'll burn in hell for all eternity!!
And in case you didn't read the thread carefully, all I did was supply geek freak with a list of interesting (imo) reading material. and it was crumple who then opened his game with a list of opposing literature!
And if you call me blinkered because I refuse to waste time following "revealed" ("imaginary" in other words) knowledge from your similarly imaginary deity then you can finish polishing Marty McFly's car then come round and start on mine

Anyway, aside from poking a stick into the hornets nest of Christian fundamentalism - I am hoping that everyone on planet earth will soon realise that three rashers of smoked back bacon, on a buttered oven bottom barm cake, with sliced fresh chillies and H.P sauce is the gastronomic equivalent to Garden of Dreams - In fact it is the "Sandwich of Dreams!"

I didn't open any game. I thought Geek's whole search for the meaning of life thing was said with a fair amount of jest but you used it as an opportunity to push your agenda.

I offered balance, and nothing more. No commentary or reference to your beliefs. You mock and condescend. That's your mode of operation, denigrate and mock.

It's incoherent. I'm sorry if it offends others reading that these conversations go on but it is always you that pushes your agenda at every turn and drives things in this direction. There's no need to comment at all on my list of books. Like I said, evangelism at its worst.

And Zumacraig - your statement about what is a farce reeks of ignorance and shallow thinking. Stick with letting us know, if you must, what you believe. Don't let another poster bring you down to a lower level.

Meaning of Life? as the arch atheist Douglas Adams pointed out - is the integer 42! but of course he was just taking the piss out of anybody stupid (or plain ignorant) enough to think that life has any purpose other than as vehicle's to enable sets of genes to replicate and survive in the turbulence of the global gene-pool!
That doesn't mean that I, as a thinking and self aware gene machine can't act with altruism towards other creatures I encounter!
And of course homo sapiens are not as controlled by the gene imperative for reproduction as we can choose not to pro-create! Mind you the pleasure pay off designed by the genes is quite hard to deny oneself! (unless you have the snip). Sounds very cold and impersonal doesn't it - much better to believe that some imaginary creator put us on planet earth so that we could watch his son die for our sins then spend the next 2000 years torturing and killing people who don't believe IT.
Evolution is FACT (Proven beyond all reasonable doubt!) - the ONLY GAME IN TOWN....

I was jesting, was I. so how may I show you that I`m serious searching into philosophy, religions. the realism of realistic , reference to my search into the topics. I`ve been truthful above all. I am hoping that M27Braney is NOT using me as a but only M27Braney now`s the answer to that.

That's fine, but, as the old saying goes, it's not what you say, but how you say it.  Go read his review of the new Transatlantic album.  He basically comes off like an a****le who only wants to mock and denigrate.  But hey, if that's his thing, let him have at it.

Wow, I go away for a bit and THIS happens Shocked

Well, I guess I'm not really surprised.  I wonder what Roine would have to say about all this Wink  (see, Flower Kings appreciation?  Big smile)

Actually, on the Yahoo mail list, he used to get into political and religious debates all the time.  He's a pretty open minded fellow, and despite his leanings towards Christianity in his lyrics, does not seem to be a practicing Christian (unlike TA band mate Neal Morse, obviously).

Personally, I'm not a "bible believer".  I think it's just a book, written by people with their own agendas, viewpoints, and take on events (and mostly second hand or later, for that matter).  However, I respect everyones beliefs and see no need to ridicule them in public, as I suspect my personal beliefs would open me to as much, or more, ridicule than Christians get around here.

Anyway, I guess whatever keeps this thread alive is more or less a good thing, right?  Wink   Hopefully those who don't like Barney can just ignore his posts............
