Well, the Prettier it looks, the more special it feels, I always say.
And sometimes, if you're determined to love something, you can give yourself the delusion that it's pretty by focusing on it's good aspects.

Wait... We were talking about Records, right?
For a minute there something was weird...

Pre-ordered this today.......Led Zeppelin I Super Deluxe Box Set 3-LP/2-CD with 70-Page Book. Zeppelin II and Zeppelin III, I plan to get just the Deluxe Vinyl set. The Super Deluxe is US$135, I wanted the book though and the 3rd LP is a live concert from '69 I think, never released. Jimmy Page has remastered from the original tapes, the big lush, warm, pounding analog sound from Zeppelin, it will be good I know.

Fripp...what is the rest of the system you have? Amp, phono amp, cartridge.....just looking to give you the best suggestion to match the rest of your gear.
Right off the bat I would suggest the Epos Epic 1 stand mount speakers. You can get these online for about $300, regular $500 speakers I think....PM me if you like.

Let me know what you decide on getting, but Pioneer always have affordable and reasonable pricing for decent audio speakers paired for a vinyl set up. What kind of amp/receiver do you have?
Otherwise. Jose is pretty knowledgable when it comes vinyl set up's.
I'm the digital guy, but if you ever get into DAC's let me know. They are great!!

Regarding vinyl re-issues ......
My question is .......
How does a label judge which album of a, say, White Willow, album gets (deserves) a vinyl pressing (until now we only get their debut and their latest...).
Another example - why Marillion's Radiation and not Marbles ???? ......

Someone, somewhere, thought it was a good idea.  Others may have disagreed, but they were probably shorter, so the tall guys win.

An excellent question, Tom. I've not much knowledge to expell in this matter, but I am curious so I guess I should thank you for that. I'm gonna do some digging. :)

Its OK...no worries!!

Amp = Amplifier, what powers your speakers. Could be a receiver, which is an amplifier with FM/AM ability. I don't use a receiver in my main system, I just don't listen to the radio anymore at home. I use what is called an integrated amplifier, so it powers my speakers and I connect all my sources to it, sources could be CD Player, Tape Player, MP3 player and a turntable....This is where it can get confusing.

If your receiver or integrated amplifier is an older production model it probably has PHONO inputs on the back, if it is a newer production model it probably does not have PHONO inputs. If the latter then you need what is called a PHONO PREAMP or PHONO STAGE, people call them different. It is required because the output signal from the cartridge is so low compared to the output signal from say a CD player, it needs to be amplified to bring it to line level output. You cannot plug in a turntable to your CD or TAPE inputs, it will sound muffled and low volume.

The phono amp will boost the signal but also vey important is it also corrects for RIAA frequency curve used to create the vinyl albums. I won't go into that as it is detailed, you can Google RIAA frequency curve and read what it is and why they do it on wikipedia or other website.

The Ion table is just an entry level table and will play your vinyl fine, you could improve the quality and detail of sound with a better cartridge but that is your choice. I will not tell you what to spend that is for you to decide on a budget and then go do some research and best is to go to a hi-fi store and listen if possible,.

So once you figure out what you need then we can discuss more, speakers you can buy whenever and connect them to the amplifier or receiver you have now. It would be good to know make and model of what you have to make sure we can suggest good matches. Usually any upgrades you make will only get you better sounding music....sky is the limit but again that is your call.

Have fun!

Its no secret that the last several yrs more vinyl is being issued every year almost. Labels like Rhino, Friday Music, Music On Vinyl, Kscope, InsideOut, Madfish and many others are having pressings done of not only new releases but also older releases. How is that decision made, not really sure but I assume Friday Music for example is in the music business and they are going to re-issue bands like Yes with the members permission and pay them royalties or a one-time fee. They will remaster and sometimes remix either an original issue or one of the previous re-issues, I suspect it just depends on the price they are willing to pay.

Marbles was reissued in 2011 from the original 2004 release, Madfish label is doing them. The big thing is they get redone on heavy weight vinyl like 180gram, versus the thinner 120gram vinyl. The covers are redone and or normally kept like the original if it was vinyl. Printed sleeves, notes, pictures maybe an insert with additional information, just a better packaging.
Radiation was remixed from the original 1999 recording and issued on vinyl, this packaging was redone and also made in blue 180gram vinyl.

What gets me is when you look at new vinyl releases, from what I see on websites and in record stores...deathmetal, gore, blackmetal adn the like are getting issued on almost everything! I cannot believe that crowd is in the 40-50yr old segment, it must be 20-40yr olds buying up all that death/gore/black metal vinyl!

Would be good if someone from the recording industry knew how that works...good question!

I was just curious....
I thought maybe it depends on sales figures or popularity of an album.
I do agree that with Marillion - Radiation, we get an entirely '2013' Remix' and totally new cover based on the same idea, and all pressed on lush blue wax, with an etching design taking up the 4th side. Very nice indeed. But why choose an edition of this album over Anoraknophobia ??? Maybe in the future perhaps ?? Why 'The Twenty Seven Club' and not 'Seven' (Magenta in this case) ???
