Topic: R.I.P Bernd Noske (Birth Control) Posted: February 23 2014 at 15:22
More awful news....
Bernd Noske, lead singer and drummer of German proggers Birth Control, died on February 18th 2014. I'll try and find out more details.
A terrific band who put out a range of albums that covered proper progressive rock, hard R&B and heavy Hammond-drenched scorchers. What a charismatic frontman, and just listen to that voice!
Here's one of my favourite songs from one of their earlier albums:

This was posted on the band's official website:
"Dear fans and friends of Birth Control,
Unfortunately I have to post a very, very sad message. On Tuesday, 02.18.2014, our drummer and singer Bernd "Nossi" Noske passed away! The funeral took place in silence in the circle of family.
Who would like to support Nossi's widow with a donation can be sure that these will be thankfully accepted! Kornelia Sommerfeld-Noske, Zum Bäumchen 9, D-53809 Ruppichteroth, Germany
After the burial the band will decide how it goes - or whether it ends here and now. However - we will preserve Nossi's memory in honor - he lives on in our hearts.
[Eckhard Gallus - wallbreaker]
REST IN PEACE brother Nossi - we miss you and won't forget you, that's for sure !!!

Oh, really bad news it was about two years ago if I remember it well when I saw them live for the last time, including an energetic performance by Bernd, very sad!

Indeed sad news again.I love Birth Control, my favorites from them are Plastic People and Backdoor Possiblities which I love deeply.RIP.
Funny you mention `Backdoor Possibilities', Sagi! I usually focus on the early albums of Birth Control, so when I finally put `B.P' on a few weeks ago after not having played it for a few years, the first impression was `Man, Birth Control were totally overdosing on Gentle Giant at this point'! What a terrific album!
I bought my LP of `B.P' from this filthy joint in Belgrave called Hippie Haven, I think Tom might recall it?! It was a musty old cafe that sold all sorts of hippie trinkets, and they had an LP section out back, most of them covered in dust and at absurd prices! $60 for David Gilmour's `About Face'?!?!
Anyway, I got `B.P' for a few dollars, and it played beautifully. I loved the band since then.

^ That's great, I remember you're a fan of the early stuff, I like it too of course ( Rebirth and Hoodoo) but I prefer their slightly more progy stuff. If I'll have to rate Plastic People I might give it 5 stars, I'm just crazy about it

I don't actually have that one, can you believe Sagi?! I've never come across it anywhere down here on either CD or LP. I've even got some of the later 70's/80's ones, but not that one! Perhaps I should give Ebay a quick look!

I was under the impression you have that one, well then you really must, you won't regret it.

No, all the ones up to, then that gap, then a few of the ones on the other side of it!
I'll fix that problem right away!

Isn't that a cool track, Sagi?
I recently bought a double live CD of theirs called `Two Eggs, Two Concerts', with two complete live performances, one from the 70's and one fromt he 80's (I'd have to check my CD at home for the exact dates), but I haven't given it a spin yet.
The last studio album I have is `Bang', which is more in a metal direction, but with a couple of killer tracks on there!
OH, and I've checked Ebay, I can get `Plastic People' for about $10, so I'm going to order to when I'm home, thank you my friend!

I recommend "Hoodoo Man" instead of "Plastic People". their best album, in my opinion. here an example track:
the album cover is "eek!" though

Thank you, Sagi! Because of our discussions yesterday, a copy is now speeding it's way to me right now! I'll always associate you with that album now
I've also got a replacement copy of `Rebirth' on CD with it, to replace my fairly ratty vinyl copy, so it will be good to hear that anew as well!
