Hi Udi yeah I think there are probably quite a few fans of them here (including me "Infite Ellipse" is probably one of the few albums that kept me sane during bootcamp :O )

I have one of their studio albums (don't recall which one) and didn't care for it. It's been so long I can hardly remember why though. Too song-like/poppy perhaps? Maybe I'll revisit if I find the cd again.

Just got the new CD from Atomic Ape, Swarm, it's excellent stuff
They are the latest incarnation of Jason Schimmel (Estrasphere, Secret Chiefs 3, Orange Tulip Conspiracy) projects. It's definitely exhibits Secret Chiefs 3 and Diablo Swing Orchestra traits. http://www.atomicapeband.com/ |

The new Univers Zero album, Phosphorescent Dreams, is now available at Wayside. It's a bit on the steep side at $30 but that's because Daniel decided to go with a Japan only release so this is an import.

In regards to Atomic Ape...
I see on the musicians credits there is a vocalist. How vocal is this album? |

Initial gut reaction on the new Univers Zero:
I can definitely see what DD meant when he was talking about less "noise" in this album. There is definitely less of a tonal palette (they are a quintet + guests of course so not completely unusual/unexpected) and the compositions themselves seem a bit more subdued than the usual UZ record. And dare I say, it sounds a little safe? That said...it does seem like a nearly logical follow up to Clivages, if the goal was to make something less volatile...so it's not like this is a complete "new" sound for them...just perhaps less them (if that makes sense)...at least IMHO. Oddly, there were parts that reminded me of Miriodor's later/now period (without the circus influences), which I found a little disappointing. At the moment, this would probably be near the bottom of my list for UZ albums. But it was only one listen so plenty of time to change that opinion. At least it's not 38 minutes long though! |

Would you recommend Present albums after Le Poision Qui Rend Fou? I know only first two and both are great. And what would be good to begin with Cardiacs?

Re: Present, Absolutely. I agree with the above that the COD Performance isn't terribly necessary, unless you really really want to focus on the guitar work, but the other albums are full of excellent moments that are quintessentially Present. Re: Cardiacs. I'm not the right man to answer that question. Nevertheless...the only one I slightly enjoyed was On Land And In The Sea. |

I'm a big fan of Present and becoming one of Cardiacs
My top choice after the first two Present is actually Barbaro as it has an absolutely stunning DVD included and the album is great but it may be a little on the pricey side, otherwise you can't go wrong with any of Certitudes, No6 or High Infidelity, all are very good.
My favorite three Cardiacs albums are A Little Man And A House..., On Land & In The Sea, and Songs For Ships & Irons
