Chargers really are pretty weak but hey, watch them beat Denver because lol peyton

Niners playing pretty tough. Love it.
Not sure why all the SF hate (well Tim Leary I get). In fact, they pretty much play the way we all long for in this thread.

Disappointed Green Bay losy but I did not think Frisco looked that good, especially against the run.

And Green Bay goes down at home again.

Can't say they played poorly but this is simply the advantage of a passing QB who can run (note: didn't say running QB) when there is nothing at all....can always take off. Kap running is what cost them the game really. Does make me hurt to think about Eli in that spot...having to throw it out of bounds or force the ball, or get sacked! Would love to have someone extend plays and drives like that.
I dunno, they looked pretty good to me. You still have nothing to worry about, they're not beating SeattleLOL
Still a very solid defense, and efficient offense with the ability to blow it open.

I still think it will be a Seattle/SF NFC game.

Well I am now 2-2 on my picks.......I too think it will be a SEA/SF NFC game. If the Saints give the Hawks a game next week, could be the crease the 49ers need to beat them at home.
I still think it will be tough for Hawks to win what looks like two games against the other best NFC teams......Its gonna be some good games!

Shame the 49ers won, but I went 3-1 on my picks, which is probably a first for me...so I'll take it.

This is who I thought would win (2-2):

Colts over Chiefs
Eagles over Saints
Bengals over Chargers
49ers over Packers

However, who I wanted to win was different, and in that, I went 0-4.

I was 1-3 on my picks and typically the only winner was the one I really didn't want to win - the 49ers.

Just one question, where were the real Bengals?  They didn't appear to be on the field, that's for sure.

Shame that a 12-4 team had to play in the cold away against a 8-7 team. The NFL should change the series format next year.

It swings both ways, the present system may favour the 49ers next year, who knows?

The present set up may not be perfect but I can see why the NFL want to reward all division winners with a home playoff game.

I disagree. I'm quite happy with the current playoff format. And it seems any change that will come, will come with more teams added in (along with anything else), which is certainly no good IMO.

People act like record alone is any better of an indicator of anything. Strength of Schedule, injuries, margin of victory, wins in December being more predictive of future success than wins in September, and like a hundred other things can point out the problems of a record based system. There's something to be said for the division system and the rivalries it creates.

I'm happy with it, too.  The reward for winning your division (the whole point of divisions in the first place!).

Everyone seems to forget that there is also some disparity between each divisions, the NFC north division had a conference record of 20-20, and the NFC West division had a 29-19 conference record. So the difference between the Packers and the Niners is more obvious. Winning your division is not such a big thing.

Maybe not, as each division is different in strength, but again, there should be some kind of reward for winning your division (other than making the playoffs).

Not sure if/where there is an NCAA thread, just wanna make a quick point anyway.
Epic title game. Started off slow, but wow what a second half and 4th quarter.

And the SEC streak has finally been broken! Never thought we'd see the dayLOL

The last 10 minutes of that game was intense!  Kind of helped that I don't really care about either school to enjoy it since it was just pure excitement.

The counter argument of course is that the best record doesn't equate to the best team.  If that were true North Dakota State should have played Florida State last night instead of Auburn, since North Dakota State has a 15-0 record.

Green Bay had the worst record of all playoff teams yet won their division.  The NFC North also had the #3, 6, 8 and 13 teams in total offense for the season.  Seattle has the best record in the NFC but the teams in their division finished 12, 17, 24 and 30th in total offense.  On the flip side the NFC North teams were 16, 25, 30 and 31st in total defense while the NFC West teams were 1st, 5th, 6th and 15th.  One could argue the NFC West teams had better defense stats because their teams had inferior offenses, with the same argument in reverse for the NFC North's offenses.  IMHO the current playoff model is the best option unless the NFL moves to a schedule where the in-season matchups are more balanced.

Indeed. Can't say it was the greatest game ever because of that first half, but I think it was quite good, and a fitting finale to the BCS era.
