Anyone here watch Black Lagoon?  I haven't seen any of it yet, but I've read that it's a lot like Cowboy Bebop (one of my favorite series).

^It's on my to watch list, I've heard some good things about it. Cowboy Bebop is OK but I've learned that I much prefer series to have more continuous story than to be episodic in nature, which is why I quickly got bored of Ranma 1/2 and Rouroni Kenshin.

Got Fullmetal Alchemist on Blu-Ray for Christmas, I do love this series and it's one of the very rare examples where I prefer dub to sub.

I normally don't go for dubbing, but Black Lagoon's English dubbing is seriously entertaining. The amount of F-bombs dropped by the female lead is almost surreal at times. Cowboy Bebop & Black Lagoon are two of my favs, so I'd expect you to be drawn right into BL. Good stuff.

Black Lagoon is a lot of fun to watch, Revy's English dub VA makes it doubly so.

Good, because I ordered the complete series on Amazon along with the 5 episode OVA.  That, and the complete Desert Punk series.  They were all super cheap on Amazon and I have money burning holes in my pockets, and it's been a long time since I bought any anime.

EDIT:  Add Death Note to the above.  Watched the first episode on YouTube and was hooked.

I don't think Black Lagoon is similar to Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop has some kind of philosophical elements and is really a drama about the characters trying to find their 'place' or 'meaning' in life. Black Lagoon is more like an over-the-top Hollywood action movie with lots of swearing and gun battles.

The closest thing I've seen to Cowboy Bebop is Wolf's Rain, which was written by Keiko Nobumoto who also wrote Cowboy Bebop.

I also recommend the Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV show. There are two seasons, 26 episodes each. It takes a while to get into but if you stick with it I think you will really enjoy it.

I think having seen a couple of episodes and not really enjoying these two episodes. Well, I guess I'd better give it another chance.
But if one is already somewhat bored by the movie, can one enjoy the TV show?

Yeah it takes more than a couple of episodes to really start coming together. But when it finally 'clicks' it's really good. I had the same problem as you in the beginning. I watched a few episodes at a friend's house and it didn't really grab me. Then I started it again a few years later and really enjoyed it. The story is definitely one of the most complex in anime. It's about corruption and collusion between government, military, large corporations, mass media. I rewatched the whole series for a second time last year and enjoyed it even more the second time. But you really need to concentrate on the details, remember the name of the corporations and the people... if you just watch it casually without paying attention you'll probably have trouble following the story.

The movies are very different to the TV show... the same universe, same art style and the same characters but a very different pace and mood. The creative staff that worked on the TV show are mostly different from the staff that worked on the movies.

^Tried watching Ghost in the Shell: SAC before and it didn't grab me either, I really missed the dark, introspective atmosphere of the film that strongly reminded me of Blade Runner. Should probably try it again.

Currently watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes, takes a few episodes to get going but gets stronger the further I go.

Started watching it and enjoyed what I saw. It's on hold for now, but I plan to get back to it. I enjoy space operas with dated animation/character design for some reason.

I've recently seen the following Animes

AlienNine (It was bizzare at some parts but I liked it overall.)

Bobobobobobo (It's one of my favorite comedy/ parody animes and also the weirdiest anime I've ever seen. LOL)

Shin Chan (I tried to watch an Episode of the Subbed Version but I thought it went too far for what is supposed to be a Kid's Show in Japan. I didn't care for it.)

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy (I've seen bits and pieces of the first 3 or 4 Episodes and I think it's funny. Especially the Jokes in the What If Alternate Ending of Episode 1.)

Samurai Pizza Cats (One of my Favorite Gag Dubs ever along with Bobobo.)

Watamote (I thought it was okay before the Fourth Episode but after that I didn't like it much, Although even before then I barely laughed at the jokes in the first 3 Episodes. I felt the Fourth Episode went a bit too far IMHO.  I also don't really feel sorry for the Main Character Tomoko because it's her own fault she's not popular.)

Plastic Nee-San (Really weird but I find it funny. Almost as bizzare as Bobobo IMHO)

Sound of the Sky (I've seen bits and pieces of it and I like it.)

On an added note I will probably give GJ Club another chance and I'll try to watch Keroro Gunso, Lucky Star, and Fullmetal Alchemist.

I'm partway through it and flip between finding it funny because I could relate to Tomoko and finding it impossible to keep watching due to secondhand embarrassment for her.

Any recommendation for anime watchers like myself who aren't into sci-fi? I've watched a fair amount of anime, but I'm always looking for more.

I don't know what you have and haven't watched and I'm still sorting through the "essentials" of anime right now, but the above-mentioned Mushishi (fantasy) is great and totally-not-sci-fi. Monster (mystery/crime thriller) is great too. Marawu Penguindrum (other) is another one starting with an "M" that is very good (and weird) as well. =

Anyone going to check out Space Dandy tonight on Toonami? I'm going to give it a go simply because Shinichiro Watanabe directed it and I'm a huge Cowboy Bebop fan.

It looks a bit toooo silly for my tastes, but of course i'll still watch the first episode or two to see what it is all about.
