Yeah, it is.  You almost have to consider the manga and anime as separate entities with the same characters and some similarities.  The two stories veer off in two completely different directions, but are equally good.

Oh, I just got this shirt in the mail last night from TeeFury:

I finished this today - Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.

The theme of humanism made this interesting. So far it's only 13 episodes with a second season announced. I gave it a 7 ,"good", on MyAnimeList and i'm excited for new episodes. The mecha aspect was hit or miss, but overall i enjoyed it.

Cowboy Bebop
Akira
Death Note
Porco Rosso
Castle In The Sky
Kiki's Delivery Service
Howl's Moving Castle
Whisper Of The Heart
The Cat Returns
G Gundam
The 3rd Pokémon movie - the only one in the series I can recommend with a straight face (and yes, I 'm aware of the irony of that surrounding my avatar LOL)
Tenchi Universe - I have a copy of the first movie that I still need to watch.

Am watching Fruits Basket, which is not bad, so far.

I have not watched it either. Recommended?

Really? I love all things Gundam but I can't remotely watch any of that series, Zeta for me is the pinnacle.

I wouldn't say they were separate, more like the movie makes a deliberate but well thought out short cut to reach the same final. Of course the one glaring difference between the two is Akira himself.

Any Ghost in the Shell fans? I particularly like the 2008 re working, actually made for a better film.

I've seen the tv series and the first movie. I wanted to watch the new OVA but I haven't been able to yet.

@sleeper: Yeah, G Gundam's a weird one. I have to confess I'm not too familiar with Gundam; I've seen a few episodes of some other series, for G is the only Gundam show I've seen from beginning to end. I assume it's like a Pink Floyd fan asking if you heard any of the their albums and replying that you only heard Ummagumma.

I have heard some of the others are pretty good (including Zeta), so I might give those a shot one of these days.

Accepted. Smile

Death Note is indeed my favorite, and insanely thrilling to watch.

I know exactly what point you're referring to and I disagree. I found it enthralling to the very end.

Maybe really bad is an overstatement, but I thought the plots were weak compared to what was before, although I really liked the last one or two episodes.

SPOILERZ (kind of):

Certainly the first few episodes and the last few were the best parts, but the series, overall, never lost focus. Even when Light or L were incapacitated in some way, and had to work through other people, the story was still about them. Too, I liked Near and Mello, and their introduction made a lot of sense to me.

I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. That's probably just because I'm a bit sick though...

No love for Saint Seiya, anyone?

Been a fan of that show since I was a kid. I also loved Captain Tsubasa

Recently I've been getting into Cowboy Bebop. Cool stuff.

As for movies, I've watched the following ones:

Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind
Castle In The Sky
Spirited Away
Porco Rosso
The Castle Of Cagliostro
Tokyo Godfathers
Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles (Never been a fan of the show. The movie was interesting, though)
Kiki's Delivery Service
My Neighbor Totoro

I've enjoyed all of them. My favorites were: Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.

I also have at home copies of the following movies that remain "to be watched":

Princess Mononoke
Whisper Of The Heart
Robotech: Love Live Alive
The Secret World Of Arrietty
Blood C
Animatrix
Howl's Moving Castle
Grave Of The Fireflies
Ghost In The Shell II
