Yeah Christie was no shock at all. IDK how it was covered else where but he's quite popular here. Even among Democrats. People are a little less cult like with their party when they are really being squeezed and struggling...Honestly, only hate I've heard on Christie comes from party sheeple, people in the Dem party power structure, teachers (they refused to pay into their pension as he wanted, even though we all pay into theirs...plus ours) and that may be it. Some have said "he's a bully" but every successful politician is. Some media tried to stir up a scandal that "omg he once used a state helicopter for personal use" but c'mon....
I'll be honest have been too busy to pay much attention to the VA race, knew almost nothing about it.
I'm actually OK with Christie, I know he's a Republican therefore by default he's a fascist racist wants to be build a christian dictatorship woman and minority hating b*****d...but really he's pretty down to Earth and no nonsene.
He doesn't play the political bullsh*t game, fall into rhetoric and all that, just is doing his job (which is something I think government has lost, just trying to govern....instead of always campaigning and lining their pockets) and the states (unlikes the Federal Gov) DO need to balance their budgets. So while some Dems here hate him, he's just doing what is necessary for NJ, as any gov should for their state.
Again, unlike the Fed Gov that can run deficits, we can't. He has avoided talking about religion (thankfully), and doesn't play the whole moral conservative thing either. He did try to stop gay marriage which pissed me off to no end but no one is perfect. Also, shocker here: He's popular with minorities, the perpetual bain and joke of the GOP.
Turns out he has this radical plan to "win" minorities which is show up..http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/christie-minority-voters-republicans/2013/11/10/id/535835.whadya know? They really don't think any differently from us whities, and showing people respect, being willing to listen and not look like a hack is appealing
I'm not saying I "like" the guy, but he's been pretty neutral, non political, not a religious freak who makes constant gaffes and wants to send us to the 1920s and is just trying to right our state budget. He's really not bad. As I said before, if anyone in that joke of a party has a brain cell, they'd take his advice and drop the "moral/social conservative" thing and focus on getting a message out there. It's 2013 no one really cares about social conservatism anymore. Even when they "do", they honestly don't Edited by JJLehto - November 13 2013 at 08:28 |

And this http://www.nbcnews.com/business/big-business-tea-party-get-out-our-way-2D11577339 is why I said from the start "calm down liberals" and said the Tea Party experiment wont last too long. Besides the fact that the GOP really DOES NOT care about limited gov at all (yeah that may be an issue eh?) it was just too out there and rough edged for the masses. At least, hate him or not, Ron Paul was well spoken and had only minor issues with filtering
But none of that matters either. GOP is the party of big business, so in the end when BB says "we're tired of the crap Tea Party" that is the death of it.
So there ya go "liberal" Democrats! The Tea Party is dead now
And here's a great line that should shatter any forced belief that the Republicans are libertarian "Both used to be aligned on lower taxes and smaller government. Now the business community isn't so sure anymore. More and more of the business community depends on government contracts, regulations or tax policy to keep them in business" aka no one is limiting the size of government, they never have and they never will! I'm not sure if you have ever tried (probably you don't need it, you are have the luck of wasting time in a prog forum after all ) but I have used the Healthcare.gov website trying to apply for a family member. It is actually beyond atrocious. I can't believe they can't design a proper website in this day and age with all the resources they have, when any random ridiculous store has one that doesn't crash and is intuitive enough.
I still have hopes for a change in health care but this website is really not the best start I've ever seen.

That's the name of the game when you play with Corporate America. Corporate America has gotten us involved in wars that we should not be concerned about(i.e, Iraq and Afghanistan) Oh how the founding fathers would be ashamed Edited by ProgMetaller2112 - November 17 2013 at 04:53 |

Don't know how it is in the US, but in the UK the government has a terrible reputation for cutting corners and costs with IT projects. In the private sector new systems are usually not rolled out until proper testing has been completed in a test environment, and a user acceptance test signed off to confirm the system meets the requirements. I guess if such a project is funded with taxpayer money they're going to try and get away with spending as little as they can. |

We'd all like to hope so from any of our governments, but they projected a $90 million cost originally, and spent 3 years putting together the mess we now have at a current cost nearly 5 times the estimate, and growing. And it works about as well as a hammer made of cottage cheese. There have been victories for, from and under Obama, but I refuse to defend anything about the ACA. The problem also extends much further than just a garbage website. The law is highly flawed as it was passed and the realization of such an ambitious idea is proving to be something that is not likely to reach any of its goals. If it doesn't, things get even uglier around this joint. |

The whole ACA website thing really isn't a huge deal IMO to the bill itself, but it is a HUGE embarassment. Edited by JJLehto - November 19 2013 at 14:34 |

I mean, we already have one party rule basically, but at least the show they put on brings SOME trace amount of power to us.
Besides I hate Democrats too so I can't say I'd love only them around.
I still love how so many...liberals or sometimes "liberals" in the US continue to support the corporatist party, erm Democratic party. It's been nothing but a puppet to all the people they hate, and I know it's often claimed "well yeah they suck but at least they care a tiny but of us" but all I hear is Obama and Dems trying to balance the budget, during a weak economic period, often agreeing to cut various social spending.
Plus ACA which is fairly junk, and may achieve some positive results but after much mess, pain and big business profit...and their wall street reform bill is a joke.
Where was I? Oh yeah the Democrats, great bunch of 99% friendly liberal guys
But alas, you didnt read any of that. GOP is the only evil, dont even think about anything else, just hate those Republicans

Dont get me wrong, we'll see what Christie does when he goes big time.
Like I said in one of my ramblings, hopefully he'll stick to the moderate image he's built, "lets just get sh*t done" attitude and if the GOP is any smart they'll embrace it and drop the whole bible belt 1920s moral conservative stuff no one really cares about anymore.
Buuuuuuuut this is politics, supreme chance neither of those will happen lol Edited by JJLehto - November 19 2013 at 14:37 |

The US needs a multi-party system. Not that it will fix anything but at least more diverse opinions will be heard. Alas, the ones who need to change the rules are the two that rule the system hence no chance in hell.
