My dad gave me Rush and Yes, but his knowledge of zappa is so far very lacking. All he knows of is some of his more popular stuff that he's heard, like Yellow Snow and Valley Girl. Today he walked in and asked me what I was listening to cause he really like it. (It was Be-Bop Tango). He was surprised to find it was Zappa, which led to me showing him some of my favorite songs, and now I'm piecing together a mix for him :)

My dad had bought Overnite Sensation and One Size Fits All back in the 70's. I came across them when he bought me a record player years ago, and I was listening to his old LP's he still had.

my Dad liked old jazz artists from the 40s mainly, like Woody Hermann, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington-stuff he grew up with

He actually sees some merit in progressive rock

he listens to classical music some, but stuff like Copland, Bernstein

tfw you tell someone you listen to Bruckner and Mahler, and they roll their eyes and say "Oh, i find that's really heavy", and you know they don't really know it, and you feel like saying "Do you want that in pounds or kilograms?" LOL
