They invent different dialects from different parts of Kobaia.

Not really what the OP asked for, but my question with all those Zeuhl bands is: How do they get their Kobaian right? AFAIK, Vander never released any Kobaian dictionary and grammar.

Guapo's "5 Suns" comes to mind (though it has been mentioned before), or even "Black Oni". Their new one (and probably their best) is much less Zeuhl, however, and much more heading in a direction completely unique to them.

This sounds a bit zeuhl-ish, IMO.

If you like the last two tracks of Black Oni, you might like the new one.
I personally see that as masochism, so noise fans can dig in I suppose.

Given your opinion of most things I'll give it a try, though

So, avoid the first three then.
Nah, I'll probably give them a go. What everyone should avoid is their latest... totally, inexplicably unlistenable. The worst kind of noisy, nondescript crud. "From Guapo to Feo". There's a rare good YT comment for you. Black Oni is one of my favorites of the decade though.

Yeti is not really zheul but they kinda seem like it a little bit at times... and they are heavy as hell... and also weird as hell.

As others have mentioned I'd check out Koenjihyakkei - Viva Koenji!, Bondage Fruit & Combat Astronomy.
Much as I love Guapo, and they are certainly dark enough, I don't hear much metal. Edited by Nogbad_The_Bad - May 06 2013 at 19:44 |

Let's face it, most unused genre combinations are unused for a reason.
Avant-heaviness =/= metal, btw. I certainly don't recall metal in Guapo, but I haven't heard everything by them.

Runaway Totem have Metal in the mix, probably more so than Zeuhl elements. Check out one of their albums, 2 side-long pieces, called 'Zed'. Even the cover artwork screams of 'Metal'.

Norway's mekanik has a serious zeuhl influence in their blackened progressive metal sound.
Metallum article about them Avant-garde metal review www.myspace.com/dermekanik Myspace with songs I also know Combat Astronomy has claimed influence from Kohntarkosz era Magma in addition to Godflesh and Meshuggah.
