Jazz is hardly just 'one thing', you know...it's an ocean. More 'structured' jazz like Dave Brubeck's Quartet (and specifically the album Time Out) might just click for you.

Once computers entered the picture for editing and recording.. the game was over. The new prog is the copy and paste generation. There are kids making prog albums on Garage Band that have never picked up an instrument. Put your computers away when it's time to record music. Pick up your instrument and try to make Close to the Edge, Tarkus, Foxtrot or The Power and the Glory without the crutch of a computer. Then you'll quickly get a real wake up call and an appreciate for the great bands that came before all this digital silliness.
I don't care how fake it is, I love the new stuff if it rocks my brain cells. Who would give a flying f**k if it is made with Cakewalk or a twelwe string guitar.
What happens if you take away their computers? Well for one, it would sound more natural, like real people playing again. It wouldn't sound fake. Everyone playing in the same room.. that helps. Musicians might actually talk to another... rather than texting.
What would happened if today's Proggers did it the traditional way?

Take away their electric guitars, mellotrons and hammond organs, then it would sound more natural, take away their electricity then it wouldn't sound fake, get everyone off their arses and down to the concert hall.. that helps. Listeners might actually listen to another (? another what?) ... rather than trolling.

What's this "New Math"?
Modern math rock i should say. I mean it has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years, but altogether a fairly new genre compared to most. Sorry. I know you know what I mean, but I should have been a bit more clear on taut description. :)
Wow mate, I haven't seen your signature before and I really do believe that liking Prog and The Smiths at the same time was a one man crazyness (That being me!!! jajajaja)...
Returining to the post's theme, I haven't got into Zeuhl bands...I really have tried but no...some tech and extreme are not my cup of tea either...

I don't care for Metal or anything that emphasizes technical skill over everything else, like Dream Theater. I'm bored by speed and accuracy. Also most noise-rock or Industrial like Merzbow and (fill-in-the-blank). I'm also rather bored by most Post-Rock, like Godspeed you! Black Emperor. I'm annoyed by the awkward punctuation and word phrasing for the sake of it. I love it's declared origins, such as Talk Talk, but where it went I find boring. So much of the visual aspect is deliberately obtuse as well, kind of like skateboard art.

Zeuhl takes some time to get used to. Tech Extream for me was far easier to appreciate faster than Zeuhl.
Let's just agree that 'Zeuhl' is one crazy animal of a genre.
Jazz. The epitome of musical masturbation. You can count me out for a cup of 'Bitches Brew' by Miles Davis. I respect his work, but I just can't get into it. It's frustrating.

I know that....the whole spectrum or concept of 'Music' is a gigantic ocean, but the Jazz sound like what Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis do on an extremely technical level gets a little too cramed and cacophany sounding. Brass instruments just schreeching away just doesn't do it for me, but I can understand the beauty and flow that some people may have for that kind of sound. I think the most i can take is King Crimson's 21st century schizoid where near the end of the song it's a full blown techy rock/jazz blow out! Lol. Very fast indeed. The limits of my taste if you will.
Why not take a stab at Igor Wakhevitch? Now I am pretty into the weird stuff - the out-there sh*t that really makes your head spin.....but when I came across this French dude, I understood nothing. I felt like I was listening to a strange mix of TD's Zeit and Henry Cow from the other end of a telephone. It took me two years to get into, but now I am completely hooked though. As far as inaccessible goes - Igor is up there with the best of them.
This piece fx is actually one of his most accessible:

For me Univers Zero and RIO in general. It's why I never really got into them or the genre as a whole. Thinking Plague is another band that comes to mind. I'm sure they are talented but so far I just haven't really gotten into that stuff.
I've mentioned this one before, but CURRENT 93's DOGS BLOOD RISING is not an easy listen...pretty scary sh*t.
Scariest record I've ever heard. Very eerie.

Actually. This sounds great to my ears, but then again I'm the wrong guy to talk to about what is inaccessible or accessible because music like this is my accessible baby. ;)
Great track Dave and I will look into this artist more deeply. This particular track reminds me a bit of what Elliot Goldenthal did with the ALIEN 3 movie score, and a bit of CURRENT 93's dark, moody atmosphere textures that they are so well known for. :)
Cool track....and yes completely non accessible for most I would imagine. Lol

Does it change after the first 2:52?? Because that's all I could handle. Doesn't sound like a song to me as much as ambient sonic darkness. Not my cup of tea, but, that's just me.
