i was wondering the other day if my prog collection will ever be complete.....do you think that possible?

The bigger my prog collection gets, the more incomplete it seems. Anyone familiar with this problem?

Let me remind you of the pilgrim who asked for an audience with the Dalai Lama.
He was told that he must first spend five years contemplation.
After the five years, he was ushered into the Dalai Lama's presence. 
He said: "Well my son, what do you wish to know?"
So the pilgrim said: "I wish to know the meaning of life, father."

So the Dalai Lama smiled and said:

"Well my son ... life is like a beanstalk, isn't it?"

Your prog collection is like an sphere: as its radius increases there is also an increase in the surface of contact with the unknown...

OK, this beautiful sentence is supposed to be applied to Science and not to a prog collection, but I think it can also be used in this context...

I have 1600 cds, almost all psych-prog, but I think it's not complete; music is a "Mare Magnum", you know (maybe?) when & where you start but you don't know when & where are you going...

My prog shopping list is depressingly long, and this site isn't doing my bank balance any favours whatsoever... I'd try selling my body on the streets of downtown Hereford to raise money for my addiction, but if you saw it, you'd agree that I'd end up having to pay someone to take it away...

No, I think it would be really hard to have a "complete" prog collection. I am continually finding bands that are awesome, but I want to hate them because I would never have enough money to buy all the other stuff I want and this.

But I usually end up buying it anyway....

A collection of prog music will never be complete. At least until the day all prog artist suddenly stop making music and nothing more is produced, EVER. But since that will never happen, you'll always be looking for more stuff.

I have this exact same problem, Arsillus.  I buy an album from a group I don't know, listen to it twice and am quietly relieved that I don't like them, so I won't have to buy their other 12 studio releases. 

I then foolishly listen to it twice more just to make certain, and end up begrudgingly thinking its great.  I then chide myself for not being selective and discriminating enough, which is why I tend to try new bands with gritted teeth these days!!

I would hate to think that my music collection was ever complete. That's such a horrible thought. How could anyone live with the thought that there is no new music out there for you. Even classic albums you haven't listened to are great to discover.

Definately NO. It's uncanny really. Have you ever listened to a CD in the shop (granted their headphones are crap and don't do the music justice) and decided it wasn't for me. Then buy a few more CDs by other groups then, hey presto, I'm back to the one I put back and think it is great. For some unknown reason that has happened a few times, the most recent being Terria. Why did I ever think it wasn't for me in the first place? It's a funny old world. You never know it may even happen with Relayer and Frances the Mute. May happen, I said
