Was sifting through a collection of prog-metal mp3s (largely collected
from this site ) and I was really impressed with the work of this
Italian outfit ... they seem to have a much lower profile than all the
other accepted masters of prog-metal DT, Opeth, PoS, etc ... and even newcomers like Riverside now I think about it.
In fact based on my search only a couple of collaborators Easy
Livin and Marcelo have had much to say about them ... while Gatot and
Useful Idiot have also filed reviews ... but that's about it
What do hardcore prog-metallers make of this band ... and why aren't
they better known (or at least more commonly discussed) among the
community? ( I read somewhere they don't play live)
At the very least that awesome band photo on the main site deserves some response ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”
"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

first of all, rhapsody are NOT prog metal. they are the worst band
of all times. they are not even metal. symphonic metal is not
metal!!!!! oh my god why do people think like that? why does god
leave bands like warlord, sieges even, soul cages etc to break up? why
does he allow bands like nightwish and rhapsody to be succesfull?

I must confess that I like to listen to them once in a while, I have all their albums. But I can only take short doses, and then the cheesy vocals and lyrics kill me ... I must be crazy to listen to that. Some of their melodies are really catchy, if you manage to listen to it A LOT. But most people won't manage to

And they made incredibly cheap videos, like with some girls dancing around like in a strip bar, combined with some fantasy outfits.

Even Christopher Lee worked with them, and his reputation is not damaged

90% agree! The 10% is because this power metal can be appreciated by some pure metal fans, but surely is an error this band to be included in the progarchives!!!

I think we all know they're not prog.
But great band nevertheless, their music is just so hilarious. How many power metal clichés can you stuff into one album?

Their latest album is ultra cheese. Cheese excellency. I wonder how they got Christopher Lee to play the narrator. In the middle of one of the song, another narrator kicks in who sounds like Eric Idle ... it's unreal!

I used to like Rhapsody, but as I was listening to them one day, it clicked and I realized they sucked. I don't know why I ever liked them in the first place......

I'm german, and even I am bothered by the lyrics. I imagine that it must seem even more awkward for someone who natively speaks english

I recommend Blind Guardian as a perfect alternative. They started as a speed metal act, then published a fairly progressive power metal album (Nightfall In Middle Earth), and then their masterpiece A Night At The Opera. Avantasia is also great ... but more in a Iron Maiden meets Halloween style.
