Anyone know any bands or songs very similar to Pink Floyd's "Breathe In The Air"? Also, in general, something either extremely mellow or something that's only somewhat mellow.

I am listening to Nosound's Afterthoughts right now. Rather dreamy stuff, a bit on the quiet side of the Porcupine Tree spectrum.
May be worth checking out. It's on progstreaming.com now. |

I hope you return to the site If for nothing else to check out these, may I say, fantastic recommendations of mine (hoho) First of all, what you need is some Krautrock. I'm not sure if you know the style, but it is far more than the avantguarde brand of music, many people convey it as. For a Phish fan, you can't go wrong with Agitation Free. In fact, this should be your new favourite band methinks. Here are some clips for ya: How about some Yatha Sidhra? That is, if you can handle a little sheepheard's flute...: Or perhaps the wonderful laid-back stylings of Popol Vuh's Letzte Tage, Letzte Nacthe: Gila's debut is also fabulously soothing and psychedelic: I'm thinking you probably already know The Grateful Dead, but if you haven't yet dived into their discography, then I heartily recommend the live albums called Dick's Picks. Here's Dark Star: Let me know what you think of these. I've got a truck load more where they came from. Cheers David |

I was listening to Flags by Patrick Moraz and Bill Bruford last night. That was pretty mellow.

I don't believe I mentioned Vangelis's El Greco album.
It's actually one of his best works. I highly recommend this album. I've listened to it playing on my stereo so many nights while I fall asleep. It's a very relaxing album. Mellow in every sense of the word. :) |

First post.. Full disclosure..I'm a big fan of Phish.. And lately i've been wondering about some of their more tranquil / graceful / beautiful compositions and improvisational segments and realizing that I'm not aware of much music that it reminds me of. If I had to guess, it would be a baseline of Eno but with a busier melodic superstructure, something like Penguin Cafe Orchestra by way of the Soft Machine or something..
Really, I'm on the lookout for prog/kraut/psych/post-rock bands that sound like any of the following.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=7z15ORtarX4#t=407 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=1QFP6h31-9Q#t=337 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=gybxcC7QNWk#t=578 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RIM-MHZtC4Q#t=489 Any help would be super awesome. Just think.. you could school all the Phish nerds out there who either have no idea where this sound comes from, or just aren't telling me ;) |

It depends what sort of prog you want but something folky is "Si On Avait..." by Harmounium. Other stuff is like the Canterbury Scene as already mentioned like Robert Wyatt (especially Rock Bottom) and Caravan - In The Land Of Grey And Pink amongst others. I just forgot another one but I'll edit if I remember

Electronic: ASHRA, New Age of Earth.
Acoustic (or semi): ITHACA, A Game for All Who Know. I like both. But rememeber: "It doesn't matter as long as it's a bit on the sleepy side". You said... |

Agree. I listed two of their tracks, Scherzo and Trio and Perpetuum Mobile, above, but any of their albums would be what Prog_Traveller is looking for. Link to PA Penguin Cafe Orchestra page Edited by schizoidman - September 08 2013 at 12:02 |

this! Second on later-days Talk Talk recommendations. Also while listening to Gazpacho's "Night" check another Scandinavian mellowers Airbag Dunno about GY!BE and the likes, there are loads of more mellow stuff from post-rockers, Canadians have always been too "quiet/loud" dynamically to be mellow. Try Mark Kozelek/Jimmy LaValle 2013' collaboration, it's simply breathtaking |

I think this is the album you have been looking for.
Ian Anderson's "Divinities: Twelve Dances with God". A perfect marriage of Anderson's signature Tull modus operandi & the tasteful orchestrations of Andrew Giddings. 47:03 minutes of heaven. Link to PA review Edited by schizoidman - September 07 2013 at 17:02 |
