As big of a Rush fan as I am (they're my favorite band), Moving Pictures is definitely overrated somewhat. But for good reason (Camera Eye is epic).

Dark Side of The Moon of course, but again for good reason. And I'll probably get some hate for this but other than Echoes (which is an amazing song) I don't see all the hype about Meddle. Same with Piper at The Gates of Dawn. Maybe thats just my personal taste, though.

Fragile and Close to The Edge are both a bit overrated (CTTE more so the title track and And You and I).

In the Court of the Crimson King and Red etc

I've really tried to get into this band but I think I am too fond of a bit of melody now and then. Their debut album, which seems to be almost universally revered, goes from twee to noise and back again - to my sensitive little ears.

I can appreciate the track Starless but again simply cannot locate its life-affirming powers that everyone else seems to  immediately recognise.

I've finally given up after so many attempts - as for Gentle Giant's Octopus ...God help me.

I think Dark Side Of The Moon and Close To The Edge are both overrated. Now, they are 2 fantastic albums, but listening to them soooo much over the years I don't find them as thrilling anymore. There are much more stunning albums out there these days. I've listened to WYWH easily as much, and never tire of it.

I'm glad I don't send people here to recommend prog to a newbie from australia. They would be under the impression these albums are meant to be two of the great prog albums. 10-15 minutes or worthy music from each. The rest is pretty boring

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

...

(sorry this is so old!)

I tend to not "compare" those kinds of things ... it's like asking if Beethoven's 5th is better than the 9th ... and they are both excellent works, and I tend to make sure my personal preference is not the definition of "better", if I can help it.

the same is true for "In the Court of the Crimson King". yes, yes, a good album, but a far better one was to come, which is "Lizard". actually  I believe that many people who give it 5 stars don't like the final 10 minutes of "Moonchild" at all, and they make up about 25% of the album, so how these people who don't like it can give the album 5 stars is beyond me. I like "Moonchild", by the way, but "Epitaph" is a bit soggy, so the album only gets 4 stars from me. "Lizard", on the other hand, is very underrated

I am not so sure about this. When it comes about the time and place, and the evaluation of the album compared to the time and place, ALL of ITCOTKC is very valuable, and I made sure my review explained it. "Moonchild" might be considered way too abstract, for many folks to appreciate, but all in all, the lyrics in all the other pieces are excellent.

"Epitaph", is meant to be soggy, when you lose relations and friends to IRA bombs or in VietNam, which was what these lyrics were about! And yes, it would be something to be sad about, in an emotional way, but I'm not sure that even "magic" is so detached from one's soul, as to be unfeeling. I seriously doubt that ... tomorrow I'll be crying ... can be done cheerfully, unless this is a comic record!

It's the same thing with the 21st Century Schizoid Arsenic ,.. which is about the maniac dictators and bombs and senseless killing ... in the name of ... whatever one can come up with, which the MEDIA, made us all aware of at that time ... whereas before the radio and tv were not exactly complete and clear about the truth in many of these things.

"Lizard" is still a great album ... but in my book, when it comes to weighing its content on the scales ... falls short of really valuable "experience" ... that resonates with all of us in one way or another. "Lizard", in that sense, is not as great or important an album!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

ITCOCK? It sounds like a series of experimental tapes, a lot of sound effects that don't seem to convey much meaning or emotions, and too thin on contents to rate in the top 100. Not seeing too much innovation either, IMO Sergeant Pepper had done immaculate job 2 years prior to In The Court.

Since when is disagreeing with an opinion trolling?

Dr.Prog trolls constantly, but agreeing with choices that have been mentioned doesn't make Mister trolling.

I'm all in favour of nobody saying an album is overrated.

I'm supposed to think Harold the barrel, seven stones and harlequins are works of genius
But musical box is just as weak imo

one man's troll is another man's musical freedom fighter?
