Holy cow, some incredible collections here.

I've always been a casual player, with the obligatory awful bar band for a short period after high school.

I learned on an old acoustic I found in my grandmother's garage when I was 12. It was what my uncle learned on when he was a kid. By the time I found it, after decades of being stored away, it had become crusty and busted and ugly, but it worked, and I loved it.

I've carried it with me ever since, but I stopped playing about 15 years ago and stored it away myself. I'd gotten rid of my electric and other equipment before even then. The acoustic even had the original cardboard case until my last move when it finally just disintegrated beyond use.

Got a Yamaha acoustic a few years back just to fiddle with, but have only recently concentrated on relearning and playing. I had practically forgotten my old guitar in the storage room, until I came across the bridge that I had kept inside in a box since it was unstrung and I had no case to keep them together.

Decided to pull that old thing out and clean it off and see how it has fared.



It's a 1953 Epiphone Zenith, and it sounds exactly like it used to.

Rough as it looks, it's actually in very much the same condition I found it in. That stain down the front was from something that probably spilled on it before I was even born. It was missing the pick guard as well when I saved it from Grandma's garage. I may try to fabricate one, though. Only regrettable damage I've caused it was that somehow during its time away, the three tuning buttons for the E, A and D strings dried and cracked so badly that they crumbled when I began stringing it up. I had to order a set, and couldn't find any that looked like the butter-tooth color the other 3 have taken on over the years. So, I have 3 original and now 3 pearl buttons.

Trying to get my wife to pick up the Yamaha so we can play together. Doesn't seem likely to happen.
